R⁴: Rimworld Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
R⁴: Rimworld Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle adds clean, repair and recycle actions for weapons and apparel using existing workbenches. Go environmentally-friendly: reduce waste by repairing damaged items, reuse that armor someone died in, and when you don't need it anymore recycle that old gear back into usable materials.
Why use R⁴ over other repair mods?
• R⁴ is designed to be straightforward and balanced for vanilla Rimworld.
• R⁴ combines all the elements into one mod: repairing, recycling, and cleaning tainted equipment in one system.
• R⁴ has no additional techs or workbenches required.
• R⁴ has a skill-based system for repair success rate and recycling materials returned that factors item tech, HP, and quality with an eye towards game balance.
🧱 Workbenches and Materials
R⁴ mirrors recipes by checking what workbenches can make what items, so you repair/recycle/clean something at the same workbench you make it at. It checks item materials to calculate repair and cleaning costs, or how much you might get back from recycling, keeping like-for-like. You need the same workbench as for making the item; no repairing spacer-tech cataphract armor at a medieval workbench. R⁴ removes smelting items from smelters, instead sending them to the workbenches.
📄 Designations or Bills
R⁴ works with designating items on the ground or by creating a bill at the workbench. Designations work by the menu with click-drag support (recycle all those tainted shirts left by the raiders!) or by the per-item gizmos. The gizmos will also give information on how much it would cost to repair or clean something or return by recycling. A worker will grab the item and take it to the appropriate workbench. Bills are created at workbenches just like vanilla, with filtering, control over search radius, etc. allowing automated work. Both use the same core R⁴ system.
✨ Clean
Cleaning a tainted item isn't free: it takes 20% of the item's materials. A great way to reuse that special helmet from a dead raider or keep that armor a colonist died in.
🛠️ Repair
Repairing items takes less material than creating an item: you repair 20% of an item's HP per repair attempt, but spend 10% of the materials. Repairing has a skill-based chance of failure so high-tech items are harder to repair and at very low skill levels they may botch the job. Items at 95% HP or more can be mended for free to incentivize keeping things topped up.
♻️ Recycle
Recycling is dependent on skill and the state of the item: badly damaged items give back far less material than pristine items, while high-skill crafters will net you more material than low-skill ones.
R⁴ has a robust configuration menu so you can alter the mod balance to your liking.
Looking for material filtering? R⁴ is compatible with my Material Filtering (Harmony) mod:

Mod compatibility
R⁴ should dynamically check any added weapons or apparel and add them to the appropriate workbenches; the rule is that if a workbench makes the thing it can repair/recycle/clean the thing. If you find that a mod item doesn't work let me know and I will try to fix it.
Yes, it does work with CE.
Save game compatibility
R⁴ should be safe to add or remove with any save game. It creates no new items or buildings. It will remove existing smelting bills from smelters, and if you remove it you will see some harmless errors that the R⁴ bills are missing, but nothing should break. To be safe though, stop and remove all bills and designations if you can.
