The first submarine project of the Alturian Armed Forces, the SS15 was designed as both a testbed and a highly specialized midget submarine.
It entered service in 1953 to fulfill two distinct but equally important mission roles. First, it can covertly transport special forces or combat divers for infiltration and sabotage operations. Second, it serves as a coastal ambush platform, denying hostile forces safe passage through shallow waters.
Thanks to its small size, the SS15 can remain hidden on the seafloor for extended periods, waiting silently for the right moment to strike. Its weak engine and passive-only sonar are sufficient for these short-range special missions, while its two TP-32 “Turndevil” lightweight torpedoes make it a deadly threat in harbor attacks and surprise engagements.
Spending much of its operational life resting in the mud—either deploying divers or lying in ambush—earned the SS15 its nickname:
