Make It Unique — Odyssey-style uniques from any weapon. Works with melee and modded weapons too.

*Spawns: uniques from this mod appear in the same places as normal Odyssey uniques.
*Optional crafting: there’s a toggle in the mod settings that gives high-quality crafted weapons a chance to come out as Unique Forged.
— What it does —
* Whitelist any weapon (vanilla or modded). The mod creates a “\*\_Unique” sibling that rolls Odyssey-style names and perks. *Items already with a unique sibling from Odyssey or other mods are filtered out to avoid duplication issues
* Category-driven identity. You set broad categories (the vibe); the Unique rolls fitting traits from those categories.
* Smart defaults. The mod guesses sensible categories automatically; you can nudge them to steer the identity.
— Unique, Forged —
Each Unique is a bespoke version of a base weapon stamped with thematic categories and the perks they imply. You set the theme, the mod forges the outcome — adding stories, not replacing your originals.
-High Quality Crafts (optional) - if toggled on, crafted items of excellent or higher quality have a chance to roll as the unique variant of the weapon. There is an additional option for weapons with no quality (i.e. clubs) to also roll as their unique variant. When a non-quality item gets its unique variant, it will have quality applied to it as well, so legendary unique clubs can be created. If unique variants are from Odyssey or other mods, crafting the base non-unique version of the weapon has a chance to roll it into the unique that Odyssey or other mod's created.
— How it plays —
* Open the mod settings and whitelist the weapons you want to be eligible.
* Click on the Generate/Refresh button to creates the xml defs
* Restart Rimworld to load newly created clones into Rimworld
* (Optional) tweak their categories to shape the kind of perks they tend to roll. The category guesser makes mistake.
* As other mods start adding their own weapon categories and traits, this mod can detect them. This allows you to assign those modded categories and their associated traits to any weapon of your choosing. I noticed it working for the Big and Small mod series weapons and the Det's weapons series mods.
* Keep playing. If you enabled the crafting chance, Excellent and above can roll as Uniques when finished at the bench.
— Melee & persona uniques —
Yes, melee works too. Persona melee can be forged so that the item keeps its persona behavior and also gains Odyssey-style unique perks. This mod includes a small set of melee-focused traits made specifically to support these builds.
— For mod authors —
* The mod detects your WeaponCategoryDefs and the traits associated with them. Add new categories/traits in your mod and MIU can use them automatically.
* Players edit categories in MIU’s settings; if they don’t, the category guesser assigns a sensible default.
* Want to disable a specific trait in your load order? Use Cherry Picker (or any trait blacklist tool). Doing specific trait editing per weapon would require creating too many defs and caused issues in testing.

*the extendedmagazines trait creates extra shot per burst and when on launchers (incendiary, emp, tox, etc.) or other similar modded weapons, it shoots two shells simultaneously. When the shells hit the target, it tries to play the sound for both shells simultaneously causing an error in the logs about sounds playing. It is harmless and can be ignored.
— FAQ —
Q: Does this replace my weapons?
A: No. It creates parallel “\*\_Unique” defs; originals remain unchanged.
Q: Can I pick exact perks?
A: No. You set categories (the theme); the roll comes from those categories, Odyssey-style.
Q: Where do these Uniques appear?
A: In the same places as Odyssey uniques. Optionally, high-quality crafts can roll as uniques if you enable the setting.
Q: The melee traits don't show that they are increasing melee damage?
A: Rimworld doesn't display damage multipliers for melee weapons like it does for ranged. I didn't want to alter how infocards were generated. The multipliers are working I tested the same stuff/quality for weapons with different traits and the damage numbers were different.
Q: X Trait doesn't work with Y weapon
A: That's just going to be a thing for a mod that tries to patch any and every weapon. You can tweak the categories a weapon spawns with and then generate/refresh your defs.
Q: Why aren't my weapons showing up in the selector?
A: Make It Unique has to be loaded after any mod that adds weapons for them to show up. Or if weapons can be consumed (like beer) or used as stuff (woodlog), I filtered them out because they were causing issues.
Q: My unique clones aren't showing up in game?
A: Once you create your whitelist from the selector you have to generate/refresh the xml defs via the button on the mod options page and then restart the game to load the newly created defs.
Q: Why have my generated xml defs disappeared?
A: The mod ships with those files blank, so whenever I update the mod, it will clear your files. The whitelist does persist through updates, so all you have to do is hit the generate/refresh button again and restart the game. I am going to try to avoid doing frequent minor updates and do larger major updates to avoid this issue as much as possible.
