SNER Class 91 High Speed Electric Locomotive

The British Rail Class 91 is a high-speed electric locomotive built between 1988 and 1991 as part of the East Coast Main Line (ECML) electrification project. Constructed by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) at Crewe Works, these locomotives were designed to work with the Mark 4 coaches and Driving Van Trailer (DVT) as part of the InterCity 225 train sets, the “225” referring to their top design speed of 225 km/h (140 mph). The Class 91s were developed as a successor to the diesel-powered High Speed Train (HST), offering improved acceleration and efficiency under 25 kV AC overhead power. Each locomotive produces 6,300 hp (4,700 kW) and features a Bo-Bo wheel arrangement. During testing, locomotive 91010 reached 161.7 mph (260.2 km/h) in 1989, setting a UK speed record for electric traction that still stands. In service, the Class 91s operated under InterCity, later passing to GNER, National Express East Coast, East Coast, Virgin Trains East Coast, and finally London North Eastern Railway (LNER). They remained the backbone of ECML express services from London King’s Cross to Leeds, York, Newcastle, and Edinburgh for over three decades. From 2019, they began to be replaced by the new Hitachi Class 800/801 “Azuma” trains. However, a few Class 91s, notably 91119 “Bounds Green Intercity 225” and others, have been retained for service and preservation, ensuring that their legacy as Britain’s premier high-speed electric locomotives endures. SNER stands for Spycakes North Eastern Railway, a fictional train operation company operating trains in and out of Terminal Spycakes, with their flagship route being Terminal Spycakes to North Harbour. {SPECIFICATIONS} LENGTH: 77 Blocks WIDTH: 11 Blocks HEIGHT:15 Blocks TOP SPEED: 205mph ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE
