Initially meant only for testing helipad operations, the HC675 quickly showed its potential. It could transport officers from shore to ships at sea, assist in search missions, and also serve as a pilot trainer.
In 1954, it entered regular service as an ultralight reconnaissance helicopter. While it featured two hardpoint connectors and could be armed with two BL1 “Slingstone” bombs, it rarely found much use for its payload.
Making frequent short flights between ships and shore, it soon became known as the “Hopper.”
