K-4368 Osnik Ballistic Missile Submarine

Introduction

Congratulations, Captain, on your new command. However, you were not our first choice for this assignment following the disaster at Arcturus. In light of recent events, the security of the state is of the utmost importance. We have received intelligence from our spies indicating that the Alderites are building new SSBNs—ones that pose a greater threat to state security than their predecessors. The following information is to remain a state secret.

Class Overview

The new Velsk-class ballistic missile submarine has proven its worth in testing. However, your duty is to push the Osnik to its limits. At present, the Alderites are unaware of the Osnik’s existence, and the state intends to keep it that way.

The older Pudozh diesel-electric submarines could be detected from halfway across the globe. In contrast, the new Velsk-class submarine incorporates a groundbreaking technology known as “ACSAC,” an acoustic insulator that absorbs noise and vibrations generated by the vessel.

This new class is also equipped with 12 long-range VLS ballistic missiles and 36 short-range VLS cruise missiles. Additionally, the Osnik carries eight surface torpedoes, each armed with a 1,000-pound warhead for maximum destructive capability.

Mission

Captain, your objective is to monitor and engage any threats detected by the Osnik, and to neutralize any targets that jeopardize the security of the state—at any cost. If capture becomes imminent, you must ensure that the Osnik does not fall into enemy hands. Allowing this would grant the enemy a critical advantage in countering the Velsk-class submarine.
