The Steelhead

The Steelhead is the product of the increasing tripartite tensions between the Coalition, Separatists and the abyss, sponsored by the military industrial complex. A first-of-its-kind fast battleship designed to take down anything its size with its massive fore railgun - submarines, charybdises, and debatably, stations.

- Production Line: The Steelhead, in its entirety, is built around a central design philosophy; the shell assembly line. From the rear to fore of the submarine, resources feed from cargo into engineering, where they can be assembled into railgun shells and immediately ferried forth to the railgun loader in gunnery, allowing for increased uptime on all of the mounted railguns.

- Platformed Centre Deck: As a defensive measure against boarding, the entire second deck - the assembly line - is suspended above the true floor by a platform. As well as helping with drainage, it also allows for crew to assemble three-high defensive firing lines.

- Wormwood Railgun: An exceptionally large fore railgun, mounted on a dedicated supercapacitor array separate from the ship, itself mounted to collapsing struts designed to absorb the ginormous' guns similarly ginormous recoil. Free space within the supercapacitor array has also been retrofitted to house a depth charge tube designed for more dramatic nuclear tactics.

- More Gun: The Steelhead's creator, after putting two railguns, one among the largest commissioned alongside four coilguns, figured that such an armament was simply not enough. The Steelhead sports a vacant ventral hardpoint and a mounted dorsal hardpoint.

- Mounted Hardpoints: The ventral and fore railguns, as well as the dorsal custom hardpoint, are mounted on special platforms which absorb recoil and enhance their effective angles.

- Watercooled Reactor: To support the significant power demand of the Steelhead's armament, the submarine utilises a retrofitted station reactor, immersed in the rear ballast for cooling. While audacious and of measurable benefit, the immersed reactor is extremely susceptible to ballast flora.

- Auxiliary Engine: Speed is war.

- Needy Girl: With thicker dorsal hull plating, a tremendous rear blind spot at the engines and the offset fore railgun mount, regular exterior repairs are demanded of the Steelhead's crew.

- Mickey's ♥♥♥♥ Masher: Pesky crawlers finding their way into the blindspot between the submarine and the fore mount? Two electrical discharge coils which feed off of the Wormwood's massive supercapacitor array will save your chef the trouble of cooking them.
