Enhanced Combat Sounds

Enhanced Combat Sounds

Replaces a few sounds to make combat more (considerably over) dramatic, akin to a Michael Bay movie.

Sounds are cherry-picked (and edited even further) from games such as:

  • The Call of Duty series
  • The Halo series
  • The Battlefield series

The sounds used are not only the highest quality possible (directly ripped from the game files, instead of trying to record the game and isolate the sounds), but some are also edited to accentuate more over-the-topness. (I am a sound designer, after all...)

Key Changes

The key changes that this mod makes are:

  • New bullet impact sounds for pawns vs the ground.
  • Unique bullet impact sounds when a pawn is downed or killed from a bullet. This one is particularly loud so it can be heard over combat.
  • Unique explosion sounds for bombs and grenades, smokes, molotovs, and EMP grenades. Very loud!

Compatibility

There shouldn't be any incompatibilities using this mod, and it is completely safe to add or remove from existing saves. Any mods that modify the method to play impact sounds may have issues, but I honestly doubt there are any.
If you have multiple mods that replace the explosion sounds, the last one in your load order will be the one to actually do it. Mods like the Gun Nut packs will replace explosion sounds too. Make sure to place this mod at the end of your load order if you want mine to be the ones to play.

Changelog

v1.3 -
Finally, 1.4 compatibility! The version changed the way sounds were loaded which broke the mod, as opposed to before where no changes were needed other than adding the version number to the allowed versions list. Along with fixing that, I've modified a bit of the code to work cleaner, as well as added arrow-specific impact noises so bows stop playing bullet sounds.

v1.2 -
Changed the way sounds are patched so it should override other mod's changes. This only happens if you put this mod after those mods. (Things like the Gun Nut weapons or Combat Extended.)
Added in super bomb sounds - reserved for things like the antigrain warhead. Extremely loud.
And of course, 1.2 support - however, this mod worked with 1.2 all along despite saying it was incompatible, so all I had to do was just add 1.2 to the list of supported versions.

v1.1 -
Updated to community feedback. The sound that plays when pawns are hit by bullets is now quieter. I also replaced half of the bullet-hits-ground sounds to not have that dramatic 'twang' ricochet, so that should also be less obnoxious.

v1.0 -
Initial release. Includes new bullet hit sounds, unique explosion sounds for multiple types of explosions, and special sounds when pawns are downed or killed from bullets.

I may potentially update this mod later to include even more sounds for different types of damage (blunt, sharp, etc) instead of just for bullets, but it depends on the mod's reception. Another possibility is unique sounds depending on how lethal each shot is. (higher damage == more dramatic sound)

Report any issues in the comments, I did some decent testing with these (with and without a metric ton of mods) so I think they should be good to go, but who knows.
