HISTORY
January 3rd 1914, the keel was laid for the S.S Penrith, she was built in Scheepsbouw Maatschappij as an identical sister to the S.S Huntress, after Huntress' launch she was converted from a triple funnel ship to just two funnels, and she was given an additional two Gantry davits on the stern, this allowed to boost the lifeboat capacity from 10 Lifeboats to 19 Lifeboats and allowed additional deck space for passengers to stroll about on the Boat deck. She had her maiden voyage on the 18th of June 1916 From Amsterdam, Netherlands to Taranto, Italy and finally to Sydney, Australia. Penrith was the sister ship of Huntress but they had completely different routes and designs.
At the break of WW1 her route was changed from Amsterdam, Netherlands to New York, United States, this was due to the outbreak of war in Italy and Australia. She only completed a couple Transatlantic voyages until the sinking of the Lusitania. She was laid up and put into dry dock for daily repair. In December 1916 She was laid up and converted to a Hospital ship as the HMAS Penrith for the Gallipoli Campaign. She served well under a Hospital ship until the wars end. She was converted back to an Ocean liner of April, 1919 And she was completely refitted to adapt to the changing styles of the post-war Era. At the outbreak of WW2 she was converted to a troop ship and transported 327,000+ Troops to the Western Front. She was sunk off the coast of America. Struck by 3 Torpedoes.
