TB-12 Stingray amphibious torpedo bomber
The stingray is a light torpedo bomber seaplane, designed for high-speed anti-ship missions. I also designed this aircraft to simulate the ground effect when flying over water (Does not work on land), in order to make torpedo runs feel easier and more effective.
Sats:
- Top Speed:101.3M/s = 226.6mph = 196.9knts
- Armnament:
2x medium torpedoes
2x fwd facing mg's
2x defensive mg's in remotelly controlled turret. - Wingspan: 10.75M
- Length: 13.7M
- Powerplant: 1x Naturally aspirated Flat 22 Modular engine
Instructions: - Engine start:
1) Press the button labelled 'Primer' 3 times to prime the engine
2) Open the Fuel Valve and Coolant pump, set throttle to its minimum position (7.5%) then toggle the engine starter to ON.
3) Wait for the engine to reach 20rps. - Taxi:
1) Set throttle to its minimum position (7.5%) and hold up elevator.
2) Use W/S to gently add collective and bring the aircraft forwards, using Yaw to turn.
3) If you are moving at a constant speed you no-longer have to hold up elevator, however you will need to apply some when accelerating. - Takeoff:
1) Set throttle to its Maximum position and hold up elevator.
2) Use W/S to bring collective to full thrust.
4) You shoul d naturally rotate and climb off the water in a short distance.
5) Use the key to your right to unlock the bailout/scuttle hatches so that you and your crew can quickly escape in an emergency. - Autopilot sys:
To aid in low altitude flight on torpedo bombing runs, there is an altitude hold system, turn this on by pressing 1, this will hold the aircraft at it's altitude at the time you set it. The desired altitude can then be adjusted using the bottom right instrument panel.
WARNING: IF AT LOW ALTITUDE DO NOT ACTIVATE THIS FEATURE UNLESS YOU ARE STRAIGHT AND LEVEL, IF YOU ARE CLIMBING TOO AGRESSIVELY THE AIRCRAFT MAY OVERCORECT AND HIT THE WATER. - Torpedoes:
I reccomend using the Altitude hold when dropping the torpedoes, at it allows you to safely fly at a consistently low altitude (around 10-14M) whilst focusing on aiming the aircraft.
The torpedoes can be fired from either the bomb aimer/navigator seat or the pilot seat as long as the weapon master switch is ON. and the torpedoes are armed.
They are unguided but have a simple system which will maintain heading they were at when dropped at 1M depth below the surface. - Tail gunner:
There is a control handle in the rear of the fuselage, occupying this will cause it to swing out the above hatch to allow the operator to contrl the defensive armament.
Please open this entry hatch before using the control handle, else it will not work.
Happy Flying!
