Vaults of Vagar: Wargear Upgrades
Introduction
This mod lets you add a variety of upgrades to your armor. Some of them improve its protective qualities, while others give them entirely new abilities! Cataphract armor feel too slow and cumbersome? Remove some of the armor plates and add extra myomer bundles to the legs to make it go faster! Want to help your melee pawn get into melee quicker but don't want to lose their shield? Install jump jets on their armor! Your hussar falling unconscious because he didn't get his go-juice shot and he is in a caravan in the middle of nowhere? An integrated go-juice injector in his helmet will make sure he always has a reserve! With 40 different upgrades available, and each armor piece having 4 slots, there is literally millions of upgrade combinations you can try. And it's easy to mod too, so you can add your own mods if you feel like it! Right now, the functionality is limited to apparel, but I have plans to expand it to weapons as well.
Instructions
Using this mod is really easy and (hopefully) intuitive. First, build an Artificer bench and place Artificer storage nearby, so it gets linked to the bench.
Then you need to get a hold of an upgrade kit. Most of them can be crafted using Vanilla benches once you have the required technology unlocked (Jump packs for Integrated rocket engines, for example), but some can only be found or purchased. Once you have the upgrade kit, right-click it and select the option to store it in Artificer storage.
Now you need to select which piece of wargear you want to modify. Right-click the desired item and use the option to insert it into the Artificer bench. Not all items are upgradeable though, right now the selection is limited mostly to armors.
Once both the upgrade kit and the armor inserted, you can press the button to open the interface on the Artificer bench. The interface should be easy to understand, but one thing you need to keep in mind are the keywords. Each piece of wargear and each upgrade has keywords. For example, a Flak vest has keywords "Armor", "Body", "Utility". Upgrades that possess any keywords not in this list will not be valid for this piece of wargear. This means that you cannot upgrade the Flak vest with Ballistic gauntlets, because they have the keywords "Armor", "Arms". On the other hand, you could upgrade it with a Go-juice autoinjector, because it only has a keyword "Armor". All these keywords are listed in the respective items' info tab under the section "Upgrades", so you can plan your builds accordingly.
Also, some items have a separate list of restricted keywords. For example, Grenadier armor from Royalty has a restricted keyword "Ability", just like the Go-juice autoinjector upgrade. This means that these two are incompatible with each other, regardless of other keywords. Restricted keywords are also inherited from the upgrade by the wargear it is equipped on, so you cannot put two upgrades with the same restricted keyword on one piece of wargear. As with the other keywords, these are all listed in the info tab.
