Home Is No More

Your home became nothing of critical importance when They came; with black, iridescent beams raining from above, horrible, gut–wrenching screams emitting from panicked people outside, and an unexplained, sicking smell of putrid, rotting carcasses overtaking your alarmed senses—You burst out from your comfy, Glitter-world house. Donned only in your civilian clothing, and luckily, your own plasteel–helmet and body armor, you bared arms with your trusty plasma-based rifle.

But, instead of some expected resistance from locals and the police, you were met with absolute chaos overtaking the once calm, happy streets of your battle–ridden town. Shots of varying guns ringed all over the collapsing town, fires raged from some buildings, and bodies of former people—alongside an unknown creature you’ve never seen before—laid dead in various windows, homes, and the debris–ridden streets.

“Creature”, that was the loose term you could apply to Them—Grey, shinny, shifting, and seemingly–volatile to anything it touches, these creatures rushed from the black beams that struck the ground, attacking outwards with only their gooey mass, and alien weaponry that destroyed even the best of plasteel armor—Bullets, beams, and even plasma-shots took too long to take even one of them down.

And with ever–increasing numbers, a disgusting, unseen sickness overtaking the corpses that only brought their fallen back, and turned the city’s fallen into deranged monsters, you realized there was no chance of winning. Potentially–low odds of escape hanged in your eyes.

Yet with a carnal, primal refusal upsurging your very soul—You ran like a coward. Like you never had before, not even like you did in basics; even if that was a mere six weeks ago. Though, it didn’t matter.

It was a complete haze in that moment when you sprinted down those streets, dropping your rifle, and tossing your helmet away to gain as much speed as you could from those Things. In flashes, you recall rushing to any of your friends who weren't already dead in the panic, pleading and screaming at them to follow you.

And with what little you all gathered, running with sweat beading down your faces, a shocking–clarity sunk into you before you even considered hiding below ground, or in a dense forest towards the north.

For once in your life—Your connections paid off, and you suddenly grasped the fact that you knew how to reach a ship.

With another flash, another minute or two taken away in your flight, you came back to reality, bursting into a white panel–door, then quickly sat down into a black, leather seat. As your friends followed suit.

Flipping a few switches near the chair’s arms while slowly being sunk down by it into a gray pod—You then initialized a few forgotten commands a blinking holo–panel asked of you—listening to a low–rumble become a giant thundering.

Then, suddenly as the pod around you sealed shut, a startling sense of relief came to your aching body, and you began to slowly feel your vision “freeze”, passing out alongside your friends, unaware of a greater danger.

Cryptosleep caskets: Useful, efficient, and meant for long, decades, or even centuries–worth of space travel—You suddenly awoke without warning, hearing blasts and metal tearing around you.

And that, even if you had no idea, began your new objective: To survive the Rim you were to soon crash upon.

Note: Most of this hour-long(And yes I mean it) writing is sadly cut off. There's not much to say about this, it's mostly a modified version of crash-landed that's meant to be harder, matching of what the story explains for you.
