It can moves from the gut to affect the central nervous system and there is muscle weakness resulting in a flaccid paralysis.

Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by measles virus.
Initial symptoms typically include fever, often greater than 40 °C (104 °F), cough, runny nose, and inflamed eyes.
Common complications include diarrhea, middle ear infection, and pneumonia.
These occur in part due to measles-induced immunosuppression.
Less commonly seizures, blindness, or inflammation of the brain may occur.

Diphtheria is an infection caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium diphtheriae.
Symptoms often come on fairly gradually, beginning with a sore throat and fever.
In severe cases, a grey or white patch develops in the throat.
