Salvaged Fuel Recovery Station
By Faded — Build 42 Compatible
🔧 Overview
Power's out. Gas stations are dry. The pumps are dead. But you're not.
Salvaged Fuel Recovery Station lets you convert the junk, rot, and scrap littering the apocalypse into usable propane and gasoline using repurposed industrial machinery found in warehouses and factories across Knox County.
It's loud. It's dangerous. Zombies will hear it. But when your generator's tank is bone dry and winter is closing in — you do what you have to.
⛽ Two Fuel Paths
Propane Path (Simpler)
Load an empty Propane Tank as your fuel container. No liquid additives needed.
→ Output: Full Propane Tank
Gasoline Path (Advanced)
Load an empty Gas Can as your fuel container, plus liquid additives (alcohol, bleach, disinfectant, whiskey, or wine).
→ Output: Full Gas Can
📖 How to Use
- Find an industrial machine. Look in warehouses, factories, and industrial zones for large machinery (industry_03 tileset). These are the big floor-mounted machines — you'll know them when you see them.
- Right-click the machine and select "Use Fuel Recovery Station" from the context menu.
- Load materials into the workstation UI. You need all of the following:
Slot
What to Load
Default Qty
Organic Material
Rotten food, compost, dead animals, logs, planks, branches, twigs, sticks, berries, mushrooms
5
Waste / Junk
Newspapers, magazines, paper, tissues, rags, plastic bags, trash bags, garbage, broken glass, rubber, duct tape
3
Scrap Metal
Scrap metal, metal bars, metal pipes, sheet metal, nails, screws
2
Fuel Container
Empty Propane Tank (→ propane) or Empty Gas Can (→ gasoline)
1
Additive (Gasoline only)
Alcohol, disinfectant, bleach, whiskey, wine
2
- Make sure you have power. The machine needs electricity — either grid power or a running generator within range.
- Click "Auto-Fill" to automatically pull valid items from your inventory, or drag items manually.
- Click "Start Processing" and wait. Default processing time is 30 in-game minutes.
- Collect your fuel when the machine is done — right-click the machine and select "Collect Fuel Output".
⚠️ WARNING: The machine is LOUD. It emits noise at regular intervals while processing, attracting zombies from a wide radius. Plan accordingly — clear the area, board up, or bring friends.
✨ Features
- Two fuel production paths — Propane (simple) or Gasoline (requires additives)
- Custom workstation UI — Clean interface with material slots, auto-fill, item validation, and hover tooltips
- Noise system — Loud cycling sound profiles that attract zombies while the machine runs
- Visual effects — Smoke, sparks, and ember particles on active machines
- Power requirement — Grid electricity or a connected, running generator
- Multiplayer compatible — Full MP sync via ModData
- 10 sandbox options — Tune processing time, noise, material requirements, and visual effects
- Rotten food has value — Finally a use for all that spoiled food rotting in your fridge
⚙️ Sandbox Options
All values are fully configurable from the sandbox settings menu:
- Processing Time — 5 to 120 minutes (default: 30)
- Noise Radius — 10 to 150 tiles (default: 50)
- Noise Volume — 10 to 200 (default: 80)
- Noise Interval — 1 to 10 minutes between bursts (default: 2)
- Required Organic Materials — 1 to 20 (default: 5)
- Required Waste / Junk — 1 to 20 (default: 3)
- Required Scrap Metal — 1 to 20 (default: 2)
- Required Liquid Additives — 1 to 10 (default: 2, gasoline path only)
- Enable Smoke Effects — on/off
- Enable Spark Effects — on/off
💡 Tips
- Hover over any slot in the UI to see exactly which items are accepted.
- The machine type determines nothing — the output depends entirely on which fuel container you insert.
- Stockpile rotten food! It's the easiest organic material to accumulate passively.
- Run the machine during rain or thunderstorms — the ambient noise helps mask it.
- Place your generator outside and the machine inside a fortified building for the safest setup.
- Gasoline is harder to produce but far more versatile — vehicles, chainsaws, and more.
