Makes the zombies friendlier! Press Q to say hello!
REQUIRES MANUAL INSTALLATION. WILL NOT WORK IF YOU JUST SUBSCRIBE.
DEACTIVATING OR ACTIVATING THE MOD IN THE MOD LIST DOES NOTHING.
INSTALL:
This is a complete "ZomboidSound.bank" replacement mod, this means it is larger than many PZ workshop mods (about 600 MB) and needs a manual install from the workshop folder. Because of how the game is built, this is the only way to do it (as far as I know - if anyone else knows some other way, I'll update this):
1. Subscribe to the mod through workshop.
2. Go to "[Your Steam Directory]\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid\media\sound\banks\Desktop" - make a backup of "ZomboidSound.bank" (if you don't do this, you aren't uninstalling my mod unless you reinstall the game).
3. Go to "[Your Steam Directory]\steamapps\workshop\content\108600\3153395049\mods\Project Zomboid Polite Zombies\media\sound\banks\Desktop"
4. Copy "ZomboidSound.bank" from this folder and paste it the game folder in step 2.
5. Just play, you don't need to activate it in game or start a new game or anything. Works fine in multiplayer coop too since it's client side (only you will hear the polite bois).
Special thanks to BulbmanX for his mod Old School Resident Evil Zombie Sounds https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3153395049 for showing me it was possible to change the zombie sounds and for his excellent step by step instructions for how to install the mod - which I have shamelessly stolen and tweaked only marginally.
Technical details:
This replaces most zombie vocalizations with polite dialogue lines. There are three distinct voice profiles per gender, and three behaviors this mod targets, for a total of around 144 lines of dialogue. Sprinters have not been altered.
Known Issues:
- The way the zombie voice lines are queued in game means that sometimes the voice lines will get cut off. Nothing I can do about that, but I'm thinking I might update the mod to just have shorter dialogue lines so it happens less frequently or is just less noticeable.
- The zoms that are sitting down against buildings constantly queue the "attack" dialogue (these are the lines that zombies use when they're pursuing the player but outside of arms-up distance), which can be a little confusing, but I don't have any control over that.
- Sprinters don't have new dialogue. I don't play with them because I am a baby and they're too mean.
