DESCRIPTION:
[hr]
The Ostauto B-Type is a 14 Seat, Singe Decker Omnibus. The B-Type was designed in 1910 after the success of the A-Type, and the need for more enclosed seating on longer rural routes, where passenger levels were lower and did not nesscitate the use of a double decker.
It was first rolled out on the roads in 1911 serving the Sawyer Island's Bus Company, firstly on Service 7 from North Harbour to Holt Pier, freeing up the A-Type Double Deckers to work the Holt Town Town Service routes, it soon was ordered in substantial numbers by the SIBC for other routes. Like its older sibling, it is crank started and known for reliability, and despite the longer wheelbase and addition of a third axle, its manoeuvrability was still impressive, and was able to keep up with the A-Types having retained there top speed of 42mph. During WW1, the A-Type was purchased for use with the militaries of the Entente Powers, including both the British Empire, and the Dominion of Newquay, although unlike the A-Type, its lower capacity tended to see it relegated to military use domestically as a troop transport, although some were used as battlefield ambulances.
Seen here is an example of the B-Type in the Nationalised Sawyer Island Bus Company Green & Creme Rural Livery, on the 7 Route to Holt Town Pier, without any advertisement boards due to the taxpayer funded nature of the service at the time. This model features two destination boards (Front & Rear) unlike its younger distant cousins these would be physical plates that would need to be swapped at the end of each route.
