You just finished up at the Academy, a shiny new cadet. You were on route to your first deployment, when your ship was ambushed by Raiders. Your commanding officer ordered you and the rest of the newly appointed officers to defend the ship. Overwhelmed by the thoughts of what these Raiders might do to you if you were captured, you broke away from your company and your task and made for the escape pods.
After securing yourself in the pod, you smash the eject button, launching yourself into space. And then, you black out. When you awake, you're no longer in space, having crashlanded on an unkown planet...or is it a moon? Collecting your thoughts and what emergency supplies were on the pod, you open the hatch and climb out.
