Looking at the rainbow splattered vanilla map 🌈🌏 can be all kinds of confusing. Who is an enemy and who is a friend? What kind of faction is that and why does it have a completely different icon to other variants of that faction? These are just some of the questions you may have found yourself asking.

Cartographer’s Icons has several aims:
⓵ Impart information simply and quickly to the player.
⓶ Increase the visual consistency of icons.
⓷ Create an aesthetically pleasing map 🎨.

Rimworld splits most factions into three attitudes:
⓵ Civil (Neutral)
⓶ Rough (Hostile)
⓷ Savage (Always Hostile)
Cartographer’s Icons gives each different type of faction (e.g. Tribal, Outlander, etc) a consistent icon and then assigns them a colour based on their attitude:
💙 Civil
😠 Rough
👿 Savage
Royals stand out as white as they are a special faction.
This helps at a glance to understand how friendly or hostile different areas of the map are. Icons are bolded with a black outline to better stand out.
