AXM Sledgehammer | Mach 1.2 Vanilla Missile
This is a radar guided missile. It combines the 3x3 and 1x1 form factor parts with specialized weight tuning to achieve relatively high velocity for a vanilla Stormworks missile.
It has a very high hit probability on targets all the way out to loading distances (2km+), but may struggle with very close moving targets (<300m). For closer ranges (<600m) I'd recommend my AXM Gladius short range missile which you can also find on the workshop.
The missile's peak velocity is about 417 m/s. That, combined with the significant density from the battle cannon barrel extension and weight blocks, give it some nice benefits which include:
* Tremendous impact energy even at loading distance. Targets that don't despawn from the explosion damage will often lose control and crash from kinetic energy transfer alone.
* Rapid threat elimination - kill them before they kill you with a velocity on the order twice that of normal missiles
* Improved tracking performance - due to the higher sustained velocity, the missile doesn't have to lead the target as much in its ballistic solution. This means that the off-bore angle is reduced during tracking, allowing it to use a more narrow and longer range radar detection cone without breaking lock as easily.
Note that by default, the missile's own radar is tuned to a range of about 1250 meters. You can still fire on targets from further away, but you'll need to ensure reasonable alignment so that the missile will pick up the target once within 1250m.
The missile was developed by using a radio to read velocity data and then tweaking the mass until optimum velocity was achieved.
