Information:
A scrap metal hauling,converted barge,made during the Great Depression. This was basically a lifeline for vintel star line, so many more were built like this.
She would also carry illegal cargo like Rum,Stolen Cargo,Stowaways,Contraband.
The 3 crew members would manage the ship on these short voyages (Skipper,Engineer/Stoker,Deckhand)
Sinking:A boiler explosion blew the port side [rusting] plates apart and the tarps to fold in,
this made the ship flood during a windy sunset off the coast of Cork.
This was a huge blow to Vintel Star Line, Thankfully the ship didn’t sink in deep water so they sold it for scrap after breaking it up- nobody died. Ironic ending for a scrap transporting shop…
