Hurricanes Collection | V.E. Day 80th edition | 1:1 Replicas
IMPORTANT!
When on multiplayer servers it can appear that the bullets get blocked by shell casing upon being fired. This is CLIENT SIDE ONLY. Your bullets ARE STILL GETTING THROUGH, and DO STILL DEAL DAMAGE.

On 10th July 1940, Germany launched raids on shipping and ports in the English Channel, marking the beginning of the Battle of Britain. The next four months would be some of the most devastating and yet heroic in all British history. Goering's Luftwaffe launched a mass terror bombing campaign of English cities, colloquially known as 'the Blitz', killing thousands. Yet, despite the carnage, Britain stood strong, its defiance, stoicism, and courage immortalised in the form of a legendary aircraft: the Supermarine Spitfire. Considered a mechanical marvel, the sleek Spitfire is an icon of Britain itself. But in the shadow of its legend, there is another aircraft, perhaps even more worthy of its glory. The humble Hurricane.
The Hawker Hurricane was the RAF's first ever monoplane fighter, and their first service aircraft capable of exceeding 300mph. Plans for the Hurricane were drawn up in the early 30s by aeronautical engineer sir Sydney Camm, who would later go on to design the typhoon, hunter, and worked on early prototypes of the legendary Harrier. Coincidentally he was born in Windsor, near where I live, where a Hurricane still stands on display in his honour. In the lead up to the war, Hurricanes were procured en masse, eventually equipping almost all mainland squadrons by 1940. They would battle the Luftwaffe in France, contending with German BF109, and covering the evacuation at Dunkirk. Throughout mid to late 1940, the Hurricane participate in the Battle of Britain, as Britain's primary fighter and interceptor, and inflicting over 60% of all German losses during the battle. The more numerous Hurricane would soon be outdated and overshadowed, however, by the more modern and superior spitfire.

To live eternally, skybound they roam.
In all of history, never before,
was more owed to so few.
Fighter pilots in exile!"

Advanced Throttle
The advanced throttle in the Hurricane allows for the use of WEP and brakes all in one. WEP (War Emergency Power) can be engaged by holding down the throttle up button past 100%. This increases supercharger pressure and boosts the engine's power output until the button is released. Be careful though, over-use of WEP can lead to engine overheating, and can burn through fuel extremely quickly. Likewise, brakes can be applied by holding down below 0%, which will apply the brakes, useful for landing.
Mouse Aim Mode
Mouse aim mode can be engaged by pressing 2 on your keyboard, and will make it so that your mouse movements now affect the pitch and yaw of the aircraft. This provides an analogue method of steering the aircraft, useful for landing precise shots. This is best used in first person, or third person with the camera mode set to free.

Keyboard inputs are still registered in this mode, so if you need to manoeuvre quickly, this is still an option. You should also use the keyboard to keep a level roll whilst in third person mode for best performance.
Precision Mode
Precision mode limits the traverse of control surfaces, again for more precise shots or making gentler turns, however it does not require a mouse. Precision mode can, however, be used in conjunction with mouse control, making the mouse less sensitive, for extra extra precision.
Radio
The Hurricane's radio panel can be found below the artificial horizon. Turn on radio power to send and receive messages on your current frequency. Beware, you must press both the PTT button and your in game mic activation button in order to transmit messages, so it might be a good idea to re-bind your talk button to 5 whilst using the hurricane. If radio power is off, and someone is transmitting a message to you, a blinker will activate to let you know someone is trying to communicate.

The fuselage of the hurricane was built at a 1:1 scale using the schematics of the real aircraft. If you want to import schematics and other images into stormworks for your own builds, you can do that here.[rising.at]
The engine, though modular, is not an exact replica of the Merlin due to Stormwork's limitations, it is probably too powerful (especially for the mk1 hurricane), producing WEP speeds about 20% too fast, but faster is more fun sooooooo.
The agility is also probably a bit too high, but again, stormworks dogfights can be quite drawn out and slow with realistic planes, so i decided to take the more fun approach. If you want more realism, try dogfighting whilst only in precision mode.
The cockpit layout isn't realistic due to Stormwork's space limitations
The default starting method is un-realistic, however if you want a more accurate starter, flip the switch on the underside of the aircraft between the gear. This will set the starter to realistic mode, and you must now plug in an external power source to the adjacent plug to start the engine. Settings:

The hurricane SHOULD work fine on any physics setting, but it may have issues with stability on lower settings, so if it starts to drift, bump up the physics level. (Note, the gear does not deploy on low physics)

It works fine without inf elec/fuel but inf ammo is a necessity, especially for the cannon-armed hurricanes, as they have no ammo drums.
