The Boeing XF8B-1 was a prototype fighter developed during World War II as a long-range, carrier-capable aircraft designed to fulfill multiple combat roles. Intended to serve as a "five-in-one" fighter, it combined the functions of a fighter, interceptor, dive bomber, torpedo bomber, and level bomber. It featured a massive 3,000 hp Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major radial engine, giving it exceptional power and range. The XF8B was also notable for its heavily armed configuration, including six .50 caliber machine guns and provisions for bombs and torpedoes. Despite its impressive capabilities and promising performance, the XF8B program was canceled at the war’s end due to shifting military priorities and the rise of jet-powered aircraft. Only three prototypes were built.
