I) What is the Lasgun and why should I use it?
This Lasgun is a cheaper alternative to the charge rifle that can be manufactured in large number in the mid-late game. It is accurate, fires very rapidly but has a mediocre cool-down. it's more effective than the assault rifle in almost every way and cheaper, but not better than the charge rifle. It costs only 1 advanced component to manufacture and you don't need the "charge technology" research. So get mass-producing!
II) When is it best used?
I say it's best used for defence. It has a punishing cooldown which makes it harder to be on the offensive. But It's incredibly effective in the hands of conscripts who only puts shots towards the enemy. Due to its impressive fire rate, most colonists of any shooting skill will land a few shots of it. A whole firing line of lasguns will make short work of any enemy.
III) But It doesn't look like a warhammer 40k lasgun!
