Historical background
"Italia" was a semi-rigid airship designed by the Italian airship builder Umberto Nobile, on which he later set off on an expedition to Spitsbergen with a team of 16 people from all over Europe. Unfortunately, on May 25, 1928, on the way back to Kings Bay, a hydrogen leak occurred, causing the airship to rapidly lose altitude. The strong impact tore off the aft engine nacelle, killing the mechanic. Due to the strong shift in the center of mass, the airship tilted forward and dragged the nose nacelle for 50-100 meters, after which it tore off. Due to the sudden loss of a large amount of mass, the envelope rapidly flew upward to the east with half of crew members on board. They are still listed as missing. This disaster ended relatively well, as a month later the survivors were rescued by the Soviet icebreaker «Krasin». I highly recommend watching the 1969 Soviet-Italian film «The Red Tent», which describes those events.
Control
The features of airship construction in Stormworks made it possible to make a turn on the spot without engines, as well as move left and right. The control gondola contains a control panel for the autopilot for one point. The system also displays the distance to the point and the flight time at the current speed. It is important to note that in horizontal control the airship has a large inertia when turning. Altitude control is possible both in manual and automatic mode. Press "1" to reduce the rate of altitude change. Suitable for mooring. If the airship is moving, the altitude change occurs with a trim to the bow or stern. You can enter the value of the altitude you need and turn the corresponding key. When the airship gains altitude, you can turn off the system.
Engines
To start the engines, climb into the rigid hull and look to the left. There you will see 3 keys. The movement is controlled via the engine telegraph, which switches to Up/Down and has 6 positions: -30; 0; 30; 60; 90; 120, which corresponds to the speed in km/h that the PID holds. Press "2" - to reset the value to 0, that is, the STOP command. The value of -30 corresponds to reverse at a speed of 30 km/h. The telegraph does not have a value output, take this into account and remember the value that you clicked.
The switch for the lights and heaters is on the ceiling, where the stairs are.
Destructibility
Upon impact with the ground, the gondola separates from the hull, and the shell flies up, which repeats the real situation. That's all. Watch your height and do not smoke near the hydrogen cells!
