SRFB H6 Class Diesel-Hydraulic | 631 'Dealer'

- Silver Rail Freight Board - H6 Class Diesel-Hydraulic Shunter Part of the SRFB's modernisation plan in the post-war era was to gradually phase out steam traction, starting with the shunters. Designs for a compact, fairly economic diesel-hydraulic shunter were drawn up which resulted in the H6 after a few iterations. The simpler and mirrored cab controls proved to be far more comfortable to operate for drivers, in comparison to the fireless locomotives and 220s that had been responsible for yard work up until then. Between 1961 to 1972, 9 H6s were constructed for use over the entire network, with some occasionally pulling short freight trains. The design was so popular in fact that British Railways had ordered seven of them for use in the North West. The first withdrawals of H6s began in the late 1990s with a handful being preserved. This build represents the first-of-class, 631 'Dealer', in the livery she wore during the early 1960s.
