PhunSprinters 2

PhunSprinters 2 the sequel to the Academy Award winning PhunSprinters.

PhunSprinters is the ultimate sprinter mod for Zomboid. PhunSprinters does not simply add sprinters.
It calculates risk and that risk can change depending on where you are, how long you’ve survived, the moon cycle, and the environment.

🧠 How Sprinter Risk Is Calculated


Sprinter behaviour is determined by stacking modifiers in this order:

  • Global Base Risk (in your settings)
  • Zone Override (if PhunZones 2 is installed)
  • Hours Discount (Ease-In)
  • Moon Phase Modifier
  • Darkness / Night Rules
  • Light Suppression
  • Final Sprinter Chance & Behaviour

🌑 Modes


There are four different modes that determine when sprinters will run
Mode

Description

Always

Sprinters will always run

Dusk till Dawn

Sprinters will walk during daytime, but when the sun goes down, they run

When its too dark outside

During the night or when weather reduces visibility, zeds will run (even if its daytime).

When its too dark around them

This is the phunest option, but least performant. In this mode, sprinters will run if it ever gets too dark around them. In this mode, your flashlight becomes a critical part of gameplay.

🔦 Light Suppression (Flashlights Matter)


When enabled, bright light can force sprinters to walk

This creates emergent gameplay:

  • Flashlights become tactical tools
  • Base lighting matters
  • Night travel becomes a risk vs reward decision
  • It brings some of the Phun of mode #4 to the other options (this option doesn't do anything if using Mode 4)

⚠️ Some limits exist to prevent performance issues in dense areas.

⏳Hours Discount (Difficulty Easing)


The Hours Discount slowly ramps difficulty over time.
Instead of applying full risk immediately, sprinter chance increases gradually.

Example:

  • Zone Risk: 50%
  • Hours Discount: 100
  • Player Hours: 50

➡️ Effective Risk = 25%

Risk increases linearly until the discount hours are reached.

This is ideal for fresh servers, new characters, and multiplayer balance.

🌕 Moon Phase Modifiers


Moon phases multiply the current risk.

Example:

  • Zone Risk: 20%
  • Full Moon Modifier: 200 → will effectively double (200%) the risk to 40%
  • New Moon Modifier: 50 → will effectively half (50%) the risk to 10%

Moon modifiers scale risk, they do not replace it. Unless you set it to 0, then it means there is no risk!

Key differences to version 1

  • Support for PhunZones 2
  • Removed requirements for dependencies (PhunZones and PhunLib are no longer required)
  • Unified the UI and core mods (UI is no longer a separate mod)
  • Drop B41 support (current version of PhunSprinters will continue to work for B41 but this greatly simplifies things)
  • Improve performance
  • Reduce amount of "Why they no sprint" moments
