Messerschmitt Me 262 A-1a "Schwalbe"

Overview

The Messerschmitt Me 262 was a German jet-powered fighter aircraft from the Second World War. It is well known due to its status as the first jet fighter to see combat. This is a 1:1(ish) recreation of the aircraft in Stormworks. This version, the A-1a, is the classic fighter version of the aircraft, and carries 4 30mm autocannons and rockets under the wings. I made this aircraft because I like the Me 262, and because there aren't that many 1:1 replicas on the workshop. Enjoy!

Me 262 LORE

(not required to read this)
Plans for the Me 262 began before WW2, in mid 1939. The Me 262 underwent many changes during development and made its first jet-powered flight on July 18, 1942. Various issues with development, including the engines, slowed the progress of the Me 262 and as a result it was only operational by mid-1944. The Me 262 was very fast and could outrun any allied fighter with speeds of around 900km/h. The Me 262 also had a heavy armament of four 30mm cannons and could also carry 24 R4M rockets or bombs in some variants. Me 262s would mainly attack allied bomber formations in hit-and-run like passes, providing very short window of time to fire due to the high speeds of the aircraft. Due to its superior speed, the me 262 was somewhat safe from interception from fighters, but was very vulnerable during takeoff and landing, which allied pilots took advantage of. The Me 262 did have it shortcomings, mainly being that the Jumo 004 engines were somewhat unreliable and would only last for mere tens of hours before needing an overhaul. Overall, though, the me 262 was a mildly successful fighter/interceptor and helped to bring about the jet age.

Operation

Startup/takeoff

  • Enter the aircraft from the left side. Use the ladder to get onto the wing.
  • Flip all engine ignition and fuel pump switches to start the plane up. Turn on any lights you want to use.
  • Turn off brakes and increase throttle to 10-15% for taxiing. Arrow keys will control the yaw and wheel turn of the aircraft.
  • Once in takeoff position, increase throttle to 100% (or whatever you want to takeoff at) and pull up. Controls are the same as any other plane.

Weapons

  • To use any of the weapons, make sure they are armed with the button in the middle panel.
  • Hold space to fire autocannons. The gunsight can be used to aim them pretty accurately.
  • Hold 4 to fire a volley of rockets. Fire rate is really fast!

Ditching the Aircraft

  • I hope you brought a parachute!

Final Remarks

thanks for checking out my Me 262! I plan on maybe making some other variants, too, like the A1/U4. (50mm gun) If you like this build consider leaving a like and a rating to boost it on the workshop. Above all else, have fun with it!
