Messerschmitt Me 262 A1/U4

Overview

The Messerschmitt Me 262 was a German jet-powered fighter aircraft from the Second World War. It is well known due to its status as the first jet fighter to see combat. This is a 1:1(ish) recreation of a rather obscure variant of the aircraft, the U1/U4, also sometimes called the Pulkzerstörer, (roughly translates to "formation destroyer") was a variant of the me 262 that had the usual four 30mm cannons replaced with a single 50mm autocannon. This modification was designed to deal heavy damage to allied bomber formations, possibly taking out a bomber with one or two shots. A couple of these aircraft were actually built but never saw combat, and I thought that it would be kinda funny if I made it in Stormworks, so I did.

Pulkzerstörer LORE

(not required to read this)
Towards the end of the Second World War, the Germans tried some unconventional, and sometimes downright funny aircraft designs. This is definitely one of them. The Me 262 A1/U4, aka Pulkzerstörer, featured a 50mm MK 214A autocannon in the nose. Two prototypes of this design were actually produced, but never saw combat. The large cannon, though it looked rather silly, could theoretically deal very heavy damage to the allied bombers it was designed to target. After the end of the war, Americans captured one of these flyable A1/U4 prototypes and planned to send it back to the US for study, but the aircraft crashed before this could happen. The pilot survived, and the cannon was recovered. The Pulkzerstörer, though an interesting design, was already pretty much obsolete on arrival due to the ability of the Me 262 to carry R4M unguided rockets which could deal similar damage to bombers.

Operation

Startup/takeoff

  • Enter the aircraft from the left side. Use the ladder to get onto the wing.
  • Flip all engine ignition and fuel pump switches to start the plane up. Turn on any lights you want to use.
  • Turn off brakes and increase throttle to 10-15% for taxiing. Arrow keys will control the yaw and wheel turn of the aircraft.
  • Once in takeoff position, increase throttle to 100% (or whatever you want to takeoff at) and pull up. Controls are the same as any other plane.

Weapons

  • To use any of the weapons, make sure they are armed with the button in the middle panel.
  • Hold space to fire the autocannon. The gunsight can be used to aim pretty accurately. The cannon holds 40 rounds. (the real life version held 22, but I decided to be generous.)
    Ditching the Aircraft
  • I hope you brought a parachute!
