Sailing Operations

Crosswind Sailing

  • Raise the mainsail to establish drive.
  • Deploy the jib to balance the bow.
  • Set both sails to the same side based on wind direction.
  • Adjust boom angle and Jib position until both sails catch wind.
  • Shift ballast to the windward side to counter list.
  • Maintain a steady heading with small helm corrections or autopilot.

Downwind Sailing

  • Raise the spinnaker for maximum downwind power.
  • Keep the mainsail and spinnaker on the same side of the vessel.
  • Shift ballast aft to keep the bow light.
  • If wind is slightly off‑center, move both sails to the opposite side of the wind.
  • Hold a stable heading to avoid accidental gybes.

Tacking Procedure

Preparation

  • Move ballast to the new windward side.
  • Shift the jib (and spinnaker if used) toward the inside of the turn.

Execution

  • Turn the bow firmly through the wind.
  • Allow sails to lose power briefly as the bow crosses the wind.
  • Once the wind shifts sides, move the mainsail to match the jib.
  • Re‑trim sails and stabilize the vessel on the new course.

Lowering Sails

  • Lower mainsail first to reduce most forward power.
  • Lower spinnaker next if deployed.
  • Lower jib last for bow control during slowdown.
  • Center boom, center jib track, and secure all lines for storage.

Engine & Battery Systems

Azipods
Twin electric azipods for emergency propulsion and port maneuvering.
Battery Banks

  • 2 Main Batteries (critical systems)
  • 2 Reserve Batteries (lighting + emergency aids)

Power Generation
Manual grinding cranks can charge the batteries when the cabin breaker is enabled.
