[hr] Sailing Operations Crosswind Sailing [list] [*] Raise the mainsail to establish drive. [*] Deploy the jib to balance the bow. [*] Set both sails to the same side based on wind direction. [*] Adjust boom angle and Jib position until both sails catch wind. [*] Shift ballast to the windward side to counter list. [*] Maintain a steady heading with small helm corrections or autopilot. [/list] Downwind Sailing [list] [*] Raise the spinnaker for maximum downwind power. [*] Keep the mainsail and spinnaker on the same side of the vessel. [*] Shift ballast aft to keep the bow light. [*] If wind is slightly off‑center, move both sails to the opposite side of the wind. [*] Hold a stable heading to avoid accidental gybes.
