Prevent high-quality apparel from becoming tainted after the wearer dies, with an optional feature to block environmental durability loss on apparel.
This is a lightweight quality-of-life mod designed to improve the usability of valuable clothing and armor, reducing the frustration of losing good gear value just because a pawn died while wearing it.
Features
1. High-quality apparel will not become tainted
When a pawn dies, any worn apparel that meets or exceeds your configured minimum quality threshold will **not** be marked as tainted.
You can freely choose the minimum quality that activates this effect.
2. Separate option for apparel without quality
This mod includes an independent setting for apparel items that do not have a quality component:
* Enabled: non-quality apparel will also avoid the tainted tag
* Disabled: non-quality apparel follows vanilla behavior
This gives you the flexibility to protect only valuable gear, or also include special apparel from mods that do not use the quality system.
3. Optional: only attack damage reduces apparel durability
An optional extra feature allows only attack-based damage to reduce apparel durability.
That means:
* Gunshots, melee hits, and explosions will still damage apparel normally
* Fire, heat, and other environmental damage sources will no longer reduce apparel durability
4. Debug logging option
Built-in debug logging is included for compatibility testing and troubleshooting.
When enabled, logs can show:
* Whether corpse-taint tagging was blocked
* Whether no-quality apparel matched the rule
* Whether an apparel damage event was allowed or blocked
* The detected damage type and decision result
---
Settings
This mod includes an in-game settings menu where you can configure:
* Enable mod
* Minimum quality threshold
* Apply effect to apparel without quality
* Only attack damage reduces apparel durability
* Enable debug logging
---
Recommended for players who:
* Do not want high-quality gear to lose value after one death
* Like to recover, reuse, and preserve good apparel
* Want to reduce meaningless environmental wear on equipment
* Prefer combat damage to matter, while avoiding excessive gear loss from fire or environmental effects
---
Compatibility
* Designed to be lightweight and minimally invasive
* Should work fine with most apparel-related mods
* If another mod also changes corpse taint behavior or apparel damage logic, patch order may affect the result
* If needed, enable debug logging to troubleshoot conflicts
