She was last reported approximately 900 nautical miles off Argentina, and after that, she was never seen or heard of again. She was officially presumed lost 5 weeks after her last radio transmission, in which everything was supposedly going well. The most accepted theory is that she was sunk by enemy attack and sank before an SOS could be sent, likely during a storm that she was passing through, if it was not the storm itself. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The British Merchant Steamer SS Herstmonceux Castle left Buenos Aires for Colchester loaded with fertilizer and empty barrels and was never seen again. 25 people lost their lives. - James Hart’s Encyclopedia of Vessels Lost at Sea Volume 3 1900 - 1950 LIST OF THOSE ONBOARD THE SS HERSTMONCEUX CASTLE WHEN SHE WAS SUNK NAME AGE RANK CONDITION John W Tracy 66 Master Presumed Deceased Daniel P Royland 43 Chief Officer Presumed Deceased Joseph D Hall 48 Second Officer Presumed Deceased William R Orient 39 Third Officer Presumed Deceased Samuel J Pyrate 39 Radio Officer Presumed Deceased John T Karant 25 Able Bodied Seaman Presumed Deceased Donald S Clark 30 Able Bodied Seaman Presumed Deceased George Landers 21 Able Bodied Seaman Presumed Deceased Henry G Huller 36 Able Bodied Seaman Presumed Deceased John Ares 46 Boatswain Presumed Deceased Maxwell P Luth 38 Carpenter Presumed Deceased Arthur Y Edwards 55 Cook Presumed Deceased James S F Lark 20 Messman Presumed Deceased Charles R Reynolds 62 Chief Engineer Presumed Deceased Kálfr Mikkelson 33 1st Assistant Engineer Presumed Deceased Albert W Croy 41 2nd Assistant Engineer Presumed Deceased Edward J Treet 53 Chief Fireman Presumed Deceased Benjamin Graft 52 Assistant Fireman Presumed Deceased James H Wypirsen 29 Assistant Fireman Presumed Deceased Leslie S Williams 34 Oiler Presumed Deceased Thomas J Rits 40 Oiler Presumed Deceased Andrew Fitzgerald 23 Coal Passer Presumed Deceased Ernest K Lodd 35 Coal Passer Presumed Deceased Frank N Mills 56 Wiper Presumed Deceased James F Kirk 47 Machinist Presumed Deceased HOW TO MOVE Use the starboard Throttle Lever in the bridge labeled "Telegraph" HOW TO SINK There is a lockable button in the Captain Cabin Or there is also C4 in the same room for a more controlled sinking MISC This ship requires Inf Electricity Inspired by the SS Sybil / SS Kolchis 1909 PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU FIND ANY ISSUES WITH THE SHIP, AND I WILL TRY TO FIX THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
