Prometheus-Class Quick Reference Handbook [docs.google.com]

Introducing the Chill Update, a complete rework of the Reactor Coolant System. What started as an effort to utilize the new pipe weakpoints became over 100 hours of custom design to create the most realistic pipe system in Barotrauma.

Barotrauma's vanilla pipe weakpoints are a cool mechanic, but extremely limited in their use- even two valves on the same pipe aren't possible with the vanilla linking logic. I wanted something a bit more in depth, so I created my own system, using wiring logic to control custom weakpoints, pressure gauges, alarms, and the heart of the RCS, the Reactor Coolant Pump:

My goal is to provide more depth in the ways that machines interact with each other, and a healthy dose of danger, (and radiation) should things go wrong.

What is the Prometheus?

In short, it's a product of over 2000 hours of work, taking over 2 years to complete. It's a bespoke vessel, each room crafted to pixel-level detail, each system a product of multiple iterations, each decision a product of vision and revision. Multiple systems on board the submarine were made specifically for it, and to my knowledge have never been done before.

As for the submarine itself, designed at the Utopia Planitia shipyards on Mars before contact with Earth was lost, Prometheus-Class submarines were designed to be the spearheads of colonial expansion on Europa. A massive reactor has the potential for 10,000kW of power, but is oversized, undershielded, and requires an external coolant system to dissipate the immense heat generated. Firepower is sufficient for defensive capabilities, and the forward-mounted railgun features an experimental autoloader that increases fire rate by about 20%, at the cost of a smaller magazine.

The Prometheus recently received a retrofit package that allows it to dorsally mount a DSRV, or Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle. The DSRV is a small, unarmed shuttle with a hardened hull and countermeasures launcher, initially designed to facilitate rescue operations by way of an advanced docking collar. The DSRV has since been pressed into service with missions from abyss mining to undersea espionage, and is a valuable tool for those with the skill to use it effectively.

FAQ

Q: That sub doesn't look Vanilla. Are mods required?

A: No. The Prometheus is a completely self-contained content package, simply plug-and-play as you would with any other custom submarine.

Q: Will the sub cause performance issues?

A: It shouldn't. The Prometheus stays within the soft limits set by the submarine editor. If you are experiencing performance issues, try using Performance Fix

Q: Can I swap the submarine weapons out using the hardpoint system?

A: Yes, though I wouldn't recommend it. Everything will function just fine, but the loaders in the gunnery bay will be swapped out for vanilla ones, and it'll look pretty hideous.

Q: Is the sub bot friendly?

A: Yes, bots can fully traverse the sub, including internal airlocks. (This means husks too...)

Q: Did you really spend 2000 hours building a single submarine?

A: Yeah...

Incompatibilities

The Prometheus uses heavily edited and integrated content from the following mods.

Visual Variety Pack
Oxygear Content Pack
EK Dockyard
Alarms Extended
Alarms, TCAS & GPWS

On their own, these mods are deprecated, and required significant modernization to be used in the Prometheus. As such, they cannot be used together.

There are no other known incompatibilities.

Warning - This submarine may require you to use your brain.
