Overview

Boomrats are volatile, chemfuel-laced rodents that explode on death. It only makes sense that their reproductive cycle is equally questionable. This mod makes boomrats lay eggs, giving you a new reason to keep these little fire hazards around.

Boomrat Egg Grenades

Your boomrat farm just became a munitions factory. Craft throwable incendiary grenades at a machining table. Only boomrat eggs work for this. Their shells are naturally volatile, so regular eggs won't cut it.

  • Recipe: 3 boomrat eggs (fertilized or unfertilized, any mix) + 30 chemfuel at a machining table
  • Research: Machining
  • Damage: Flame (1.5 radius), splatters burning chemfuel
  • Range: 12.9 (same as frag grenades)
  • Cooldown: 2.66s

Weaker than a molotov but cheaper to make if you have a steady egg supply. Finally, a reason to keep those boomrats fed.

  • Egg interval: Every 2 days
  • Eggs per lay: 1
  • Hatch time: 3 days (fertilized only)
  • Market value: 10 silver per egg
  • Hatches into: Boomrat

Boomrat eggs are slightly more valuable than chicken eggs due to their chemfuel-laced nature. The 2-day lay interval keeps things balanced, since boomrats are small animals and egg-laying is a bonus on top of their existing utility as expendable combatants.

FAQ

Q: Boomrats are mammals. Mammals don't lay eggs.
A: They also explode when they die. Realism left a long time ago.

Q: Do the eggs explode?
A: Not on their own. But if you stuff them with chemfuel and add a wick, they absolutely do. See: egg grenades.

Q: Can I hatch an army of boomrats from eggs?
A: Yes. Keep fertilized eggs warm and you'll have yourself a boomrat farm. What could go wrong?

Q: Do I need any DLC?
A: No. This mod works with the base game.

Q: Can I add this to an existing save?
A: Yes. Your existing boomrats will start laying right away.

Q: Is this compatible with [other boomrat mods]?
A: Should be. This mod uses a simple XML patch to add an egg-laying component. It doesn't replace or overwrite any existing data.
