This is the story of The Unimog and how a good idea led to a world famous product.
Unimog
In the case of this story, it is about the story of the most universal tractor at the time. starting in 1946 the war had just ended, the world was in reconstruction and for that big equipment was needed.
a pioneer at FMC came up with the idea to develop a tractor that was suitable for agriculture as well as for transport and construction. soon came the idea to equip a small truck frame with portal axles and 4 wheel drive to achieve a lot of ground clearance and pulling capability with relatively small wheels. also front and rear lifting device with PTO was added to the machine. a simple cabin (luxury for that time) also became standard equipment and a large sturdy loading bed on the back was standard. after all drawings were complete, and a unique transmission for the machine was developed, the construction of 2 prototypes was started. the machine proved to be a success and performed better than expected.
a year and a half of testing and improvements passed, in the meantime 6 prototypes had been added. interest in the machine from farmers and contractors quickly increased, especially when the machine was presented at the RAI in 1947, the first orders had already been placed at that same RAI. and in 1948 production finally started. a success the market for the machines was huge.
Unimog 525-524
After the 503 series with its 58 kW engine had become a resounding success, demand for more power gradually arose.
Development of the Unimog 525 began in 1972, and it was launched in 1975. This truck offered a huge boost in power with 105 kW engine and a top speed of 85 km/h (53 mph), a true heavy-duty model with everything bigger, heavier, stronger, and better.
The new Truck has a modern look that remains timeless today. The completely new, now truly comfortable cab, combined with the new frame and a new transmission, has carried this FMC series forward for years to come.
In 1976, the 524 series also launched as the successor to the 503, offering more power and greater speed. Technically almost identical to its bigger brother, the 525, and with roughly the same equipment, this was another major step forward.
this version specifically
like every Unimog ever built there were many options to personalize the Truck and each Truck was only built when one was sold this resulted in a slight delay from truck purchase to delivery but ensured that every customer got a truck to wish was guaranteed.
This specific Unimog 525 was equipped with the Agri package consisting of,
-the M1050 engine [D5.105T B4]
-FMC TG3/50-10/11 Transmission with auxiliary gearbox good for 24 different speeds forward and reverse.
-Rear PTO, Hydraulics, Hitch and Lift
-Front Hydraulics and Lift
-Full Hydraulic package
engine details,
The motor is an FMC D5.105T B4 known for its high torque increase.
The engine is good for 105sKW at 2000RPM, the engine speed range is from 600 to 2600 RPM.
The motor is liquid-cooled and mechanically controlled.
Transmission Details,
The Transmission is an FMC TG3/50-10/11
known for its easy operation.
The transmission has 8 main gears, forward/reverse is achieved by a reversing gear box which means that there are the same number of forward and reverse speeds achievable.
in this case an auxiliary transmission is mounted which adds an extra 2 groups, these groups consist of a work group and a crawl group.
the transmission is fully synchromesh which makes shifting very easy.
Driver Details,
the kockpid is simply furnished with a lot of space operation of the steering wheel and pedals is all assisted, all the most important instruments are placed directly in front of the driver so that the driver never has to take his eyes off the road. Hydraulics are easy to access and visibility over machines is optimal.
important details,
It is important to know that the transmission requires the correct use of the clutch, this means that it is important to fully press the clutch while shifting, clutch assist is available and can be found in the back of the transmission control panel.
Only switch between groups and direction of travel when stationary, otherwise unnecessary damage may occur.
the fuel tank is located on the passenger side and can be filled with the fluid coupling ontop.
the car was built as an Agricultural Tractor and not as a race car. the fact that she can reach 72KM/H certainly does not mean that it is also wise to do so with every load. it is and remains advisable to use your brain.
for use of the rear hitch, it is required that Hydro function 5-6 be switched to hitch mode, this switch can be found on the left rear under the bed. here are also the release buttons for the tow bar and the Hitch.
one last word,
despite the fact that this is of course a fictional vehicle, this Truck is designed in such a way that it is equipped practically the same as my Mercedes-Benz Unimog 425 U1500 Agrar during the development I tried very hard to achieve the same experience with this Truck as with a real Unimog 425, and if I say so myself I succeeded quite well
this is a fictional brand and a fictional Truck, it is really built like an old Agri-Truck and definitely not a racing car! when driving very hard through corners the Truck may experience overstear and this will not be too easy to correct. again the Truck is not built for Racing and this will result in damage!
