Overview
This mod was made mainly for personal use, as I rarely tried to tame animals in the early game except for completely peaceful ones.
The permanent manhunter state on many animals often felt like a near-certain death sentence on a failed tame, even when the animal wasn’t actually harmed.
This mod replaces the animal’s revenge with a temporary rage that still poses danger, but eventually ends with the animal breaking off the attack and leaving you alone.
It makes failed taming attempts less lethal while staying fully vanilla-friendly, and helps make taming more realistic and viable in the early game.
The animal will:
• Only go manhunter for a limited time
• Focus the tamer instead of pulling the whole herd
• Run away once the rage ends (stay on map)
Important:
This only affects manhunter caused by failed taming.
All other manhunter events (incidents, psychic pulses, predators, etc.) remain completely vanilla.
How it works
• When a tame attempt fails and triggers revenge, the animal enters a temporary manhunter state.
• The duration is based on a base time plus a wildness bonus.
• Only the target animal becomes manhunter — no pack or herd aggro.
• The animal aggressively attacks for the duration, then immediately stops and run away from the pawn.
• Optionally, the rage can end early after a set number of hits (on by default).
• After fleeing, the animal returns to normal behavior and can be tamed again once vanilla cooldown allows.

— Wildness scaling: Wilder animals stay angry longer.
— Optional hit limit: Rage can end early after landing a set number of hits.
— Focused aggression: The animal targets the tamer instead of pulling nearby animals.
— Clean exit: Animal flees on the map when rage ends — no lingering chase, no map exit.
Settings
Fully configurable in Mod Settings:
• Base revenge duration (seconds)
• Wildness duration bonus (0–300%)
• Stop rage early after hits (toggle)
• Number of hits before rage ends
• Timer check interval (performance tuning)
All settings apply immediately — no restart required.
Compatibility
Safe to add to existing saves.
Does not alter vanilla taming success chance, cooldowns, or animal defs.
Compatibility notes:
• Other manhunter sources are untouched
• Works with modded animals (including ranged attackers)
Performance
Very lightweight.
Only tracks animals that are actively in a temporary tame-fail rage.
