Insect Lair Incident

What does the mod do? A simple mod inspired by two vanilla concepts: Anomaly introduced a particular event: pit gate openings — hellish rifts that force you to leave your fortified base to explore unknown lands. Odyssey introduced infested settlements and insect caves. So why not link the two? From now on, the swarm will come directly to your base — well, to the underground of your base — to open a chasm that will vomit chitinous hordes onto your poor defenses. It's up to you to dive into the hive and hunt down and exterminate the queen! Do you want to know more? [hr] Compatibility Fully compatible with VFE Insectoid, which we warmly recommend. Each chasm belongs to a geneline, including the vanilla one (we preferred to keep the vanilla Hive Queen rather than the Empress from the Sorne geneline, which lays eggs far too quickly). Also compatible with Alpha Animals' Black Hive geneline! If both VFE Insectoids 2 and Alpha Animals are installed, lairs may spawn with the terrifying Black Hive insects and their Black Empress boss. Both mods are required for the Black Hive geneline to appear. Once the chasm is open, waves of insects will emerge from the depths to attack your colonists, gnaw at your walls, and threaten your way of life. Once the boss is killed, just like with pit gates, your time is limited to loot the gelatinous caverns. Difficulty There are many options to increase or decrease the difficulty, with presets already saved for those who want some slightly tense spelunking, and for those who want to face death head-on and spit in the face of its mandibles. If you really think something is preventing its activation, make sure by checking in Dev Mode. [b]The insects are too many & too strong![/b] The mod's difficulty is configurable independently from your storyteller's difficulty. The hardest part of creating an offensive mod is giving it a difficulty comparable to other events: we tried, but you're allowed to disagree with our balancing.
