Saab 340-200
The Saab 340 is a Swedish twin-engine turboprop passenger aircraft developed in collaboration between Saab and Fairchild. The aircraft had its maiden flight on January 25, 1983, and entered regular service on June 15, 1984, with Swiss airline Crossair. A total of 459 units were produced until 1999. The Saab 340 was also developed into a military variant, AEW&C, equipped with an AESA radar for surveillance purposes.
Saab, originally Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget, was founded in 1937 to produce military aircraft for Sweden. The company evolved into a leading player in defense and security technology, with products like the Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighter jet. In the 1980s, Saab tried to establish itself in the civil aviation market with models like the Saab 340 and later the Saab 2000, but production of civilian aircraft ended in 2005.
