Mercury 600 V12 Outboard Motor
Hello everyone,
I'm excited to finally share a project that has occupied my workshop for quite some time. It began after I found an older replica of the Mercury 600 V12 By bobcat_227. While it was a good starting point, I felt it didn't capture the mechanical spirit of the real thing. I decided to take on the challenge of a complete overhaul, keeping only the outer shell and re-engineering everything within.
At its heart, I've designed and built a new V12 flat engine, complete with its own dedicated ECU. This engine is paired with a custom two-speed automatic transmission just like the real one, which allows for smooth power delivery from a standing start all the way to top speed. To match the real motor's ingenuity, I also redesigned the steering to be independent and integrated a full-range trim and tilt system.
In terms of performance, it's very stable and can comfortably maintain its maximum speed of 30 rps. Under full load, the fuel consumption is a steady 0.5 L/s, managed by a high-efficiency cooling system I designed to keep temperatures in check.
I wanted this to be a robust and straightforward unit for others to use. Installation is as simple as it gets: just connect the fuel line and an electric source, and it's ready to go.
This has been a significant but incredibly rewarding project. I'm genuinely proud of the result and I hope it brings a new level of performance and realism to your own creations. I look forward to hearing your feedback.
I hope you enjoy the performance. Please leave any feedback or questions in the comments below!
