Exitson 314 Clipped Clipper This is my entry for [url=https%3A%2F%2Fdiscord.gg%2FBjnhpaSCfR] Alistair's Egg Plane Challenge [/url][discord.gg] I was blackmailed into building an egg version of the Boeing 314 Clipper by Alistair for his egg plane challenge. There were so many planes I also wanted to build (including this one) and I couldn't pick one. Alistair made my decision for me and as it turns out he was right, I am really happy I gave this a go. Technically the challenge rules say this is supposed to be an egg scale replica of a real plane, and I have taken a lot of liberties with the design both internal and external due to the eggyness and budget constraints. Hopefully I do not get disqualified lmao. I ran out of money in the budget for the challenge, so some parts are a bit unfinished, such as the Navigator/Radio Operator station and the sparse interior etc. At the bottom of the page is a rambling story that attempts to explain how the half modernised, modified for freight, egg version of the Boeing 314 Clipper came to be. This particular example is supposed to represent the first Clipped Clipper Built by the Exitson Aircraft Company which has been kept in their possession since it's construction. Features: [list] [*] EGG [*] Almost all controls are positioned as close to the correct place as possible [*] All relevant speeds, fuel quantities, engine indications, range, etc are mostly accurate to the real Clipper [*] Fully operational flaps [*] Realistic-ish flying characteristics, coordinated turns with bank angle [*] Stalls and dives correctly-ish [*] Glides! [*] Floats! [*] Engine heat and exhaust/oil smoke simulated (engines smoke on startup and when hot or at full throttle) [*] Fully functional Flight Engineer's station [*] Automatic bilge pumps (just in case XD) [/list] Specifications: Crew 2 Pilots, 1 Flight Engineer, 1 Navigator/Radio Operator Length 19.25m Beam 3.25m Wingspan 18.75m Height 7.75m Draft 1m Cargo Capacity 8000kg/2x Unicon H4 Containers Passenger Capacity 8 Dry Weight 11430kg Maximum Takeoff Weight 22050kg Fuel Capacity 3500 Litres Max Speed 200 Knots Cruise Speed 160 Knots Range 3685 Miles Operating Instructions: Please use at least medium physics settings Electrical Power: [list] [*] The Master and Auxiliary power switches, as well as the avionics switch, are located on the left hand pilot overhead panel [*] In the event of both Master and Auxiliary batteries being depleted, the generator can be started at the top right of the engineer's panel [/list] Starting the Engines: [list] [*] Turn on the Fuel Booster pump on the left pilot overhead panel [*] Turn on the Magneto switches of engine/s to be started on the centre pilot overhead panel [*] Push and hold the Starter button/s directly below the Magneto switch [*] Engines can be shut down by turning off the Magnetos or shutting off the fuel via the engineer's panel [/list] Taxi: [list] [*] Set Beacon/Strobe/Nav/Landing Lights as desired on the right pilot overhead panel [*] Increase engine power with the Throttle to the outboard of either pilot seat [*] Steer with Left/Right keys from either pilot seat [*] To engage reverse thrust if required, press Reverse Thrust Enable button at rear of either Throttle and reduce Throttle through zero detent to negative. [/list] Takeoff: [list] [*] Check Stability Augmentation is NOT Disabled on the right pilot overhead panel [*] Increase engine power with the Throttle to Full [*] At 60 knots pull back moderately (W/S) until 10 degrees of pitch is reached [*] Hold 10 degrees of pitch until Aircraft takes off [/list] Flight: [list] [*] Set Throttle to 0.8 for best economic cruise [*] The Clipper is most enjoyably flown sedately, but it can bank and yank just fine (A/D) [*] Stalling and gliding are both possible and kind of realistically simulated. Keep an eye on your airspeed and do not try to climb too aggressively [*] Use the map touch screen in the centre right of the instrument panel to set waypoints for the autopilot [*] The Altitude hold will maintain your current altitude if no number is input into the keypad, it is not very aggressive but it is working [*] The stability augmentation can be completely disabled for full flight manoeuvers [/list] Landing: [list] [*] The Clipper lands nicely at anything below 100 knots [*] Best landing speed with Full Flaps: 70 Knots [*] Best landing speed with no Flaps: 90 Knots [*] Set your desired approach speed and flaps and let the plane land itself [*] The stability augmentation should be enabled for a nice approach [/list] Engineer's Station: [list] [*] The Fuel System will automatically balance the fuel between tanks, and fill the wing tanks from the sponson tanks [*] The automatic system can be disabled and fuel can be moved around between tanks as desired [*] Fuel can be shut off individually to each engine [*] All engine parameters are displayed on the various gauges [*] Engine Temperature can be regulated via the cowl flaps [*] Outside Air Temperature and Cabin Temperature can be monitored [*] Cabin Climate Control can be managed [*] Electrical power can be monitored and the generator activated [/list] Navigator/Radio Operator Station: [list] [*] Just do your best [*] Good luck [/list] Credits: Thanks for checking out my Egg Clipper!
