MS Gamma 1930 (Sinkable)

CANADIAN COASTAL STEAMER "GAMMA" The Gamma, is a simple and sturdy little ship that can take your cargo anywhere it needs to go around the Canadian coast with ease. Though, when it comes to escaping the ship in an emergency, maybe her designers should've added a few more hatches... LORE Built in 1930 for the Canadian company Haymaker & Sons of Halifax, the Gamma was 1 of 2 ships of this design. The other ship was her identical sister ship the MS Delta also built for Haymaker & Sons in 1930. The Gamma would serve for only 7 years. In this 7 years her career was fairly tame with only a minor scrape against a pier in Nova Scotia sometime in 1935. But on the morning of September 20, 1937, the Gamma left St John's bound for Charloette Town, loaded with crates upon crates of a popular American made soft drink that will remain unnamed. In the early morning hours of the 21st, the ship was entering the Gulf of ST Lawrence, sticking to the coast of Cape Brenton Island. At this point the Gamma was battling through a somewhat strong storm getting broadsided by waves up to 10 feet tall that washed over her deck. Engineer, Ross Barkley (Not the soccer player) was tending to the ships engine when he was suddenly pushed down by a sudden gush of water that came through from the aft cargo hold. After fighting through the wake along with the other engineer, Will Wilhelm, the 2 realized that some plates on the starboard side of the aft cargo hold had buckled and not only that, the cargo hatch had been almost completely broke in and shredded. Then they heard the ships horn blare 5 times. That was the captain ordering an abandon ship as it was clear to everyone onboard that the Gamma was doomed. Wireless operator Elmer Welcher was in the wireless room when he looked up and saw the portholes were completely submerged. At first he though a wave had incredibly washed over the aft deck house however that only lasted for around 5 seconds until he heard the horn and realized what was going on. He sent out 3 separate SOS calls that were thankfully heard by 2 ships in the area. Elmer couldn't respond to the calls from those 2 ships though, as he had to abandon the rapidly flooding deck house. Just as he opened the door and swam out, he looked down one last time whilst he was swimming and saw the deck house collapse on itself and be washed away. If he had stayed in there for just a few more seconds, he would've been washed away with it. Up in the wheelhouse, captain Micheal Joe had just ordered the abandon ship when another wave washed over the deck and ripped through the wooden construct and sweeping all 3 men in it, the Captain, the 1st Officer, and the Helmsman, out of it and into the churning waters. All 3 swam to the roof of the wheelhouse which the wave that ripped through it had spared, and all 3 climbed on top of the roof, using it as a raft, as well as the lookout who after seeing the aft cargo hatch get ripped apart as well as the after part of the ship sink very rapidly, had grabbed a life ring and jumped overboard. The 4 men also helped Elmer as well as the boatswain who had also, escaped the aft deck house before it was fully submerged get onto the makeshift raft. Just as the bow began to rise into the air, the engineers, as well as the seaman and the oiler who were sleeping in the bow, emerged from the bow hatch and jumped into the water. All 4 were pulled aboard the raft just as the Gamma completely foundered. Leaving all of her crew on the unstable roof of what was once the wheelhouse. The men stayed there for around an hour before they saw a pair of navigation lights emerge from the fog of the storm. It was the Gamma's sister ship, the Delta. The closer of the 2 ships that had heard Elmer's frantic SOS calls. The men on the Delta rushed to the port side deck and threw lifelines and life rings into the water and thankfully one of those lines was caught by the Captain and was tied to the railing before almost every man on the Delta pulled together to bring the pilot house close enough for the men of the Gamma to climb aboard, and at 5 PM on September 21st, 1937, the Delta steamed into Charolette Town, with every man from the Gamma safe aboard. Even though nobody died, Haymaker & Sons was under severe fire for the safety risks onboard the Gamma and Delta. The lack of access to the deck from below was a critical issue pointed out by Ross Barkley & Will Wilhelm. And the lack of a lifeboat was also pointed out even if there was no time for one to be used as the Gamma went down in only around a minute or 2. After this, Haymaker & Sons were fined and the MS Delta was modified with 3 emergency hatches on her cargo hatches and 1 in a crawl space below the midship crew quarters which until the Delta was scrapped in 1950, her crew would use regularly to get below decks faster. No lifeboat was installed on the Delta however every ship built after that for Haymaker & Sons included enough boats for every man on the ship. Surprisingly, the wreck of the Gamma hasn't been discovered yet as we know the location it sank in and its likely not that deep since it sank just of the north coast of Cape Brenton Island. All 10 crew were put on a new H&Sons ship not long after, and all lived long lives as every man lived past 65. HOW TO MOVE There is a throttle lever on the ships motor labled "Throttle" in the engine room. PS. You don't have to play with infinite electricity for this ship to work however if you are in custom mode I do recommend it. HOW TO SINK There is a lockable button in the wireless room. MISC This ship wasn't really based on anything specific however a bit of inspiration was taken from this ship made by "hming" https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3403398280 CREW OF THE SHIP Captain : Micheal Joe (Survived) 1ST Officer : Harlo Parks (Survived) Helmsman : Frank Petiral (Survived) Radio Operator : Elmer Welcher (Survived) Able Bodied Seaman : Jack Collins (Survived) Lookout : Sebastian York (Not me) (Survived) Boatsawin : Tory Davis (Survived) Oiler : Jack Sue (Survived) Engineer : Ross Barkley (Survived) Engineer : Will Wilhelm (Survived) SISTER SHIP https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3505376652 PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU FIND ANY ISSUES WITH THE SHIP AND I WILL TRY TO FIX THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
