HISTORY
The SS Hart was built in 1899 as a coastal cargo vessel operating on the shores of the southeast United States. In 1901, she was sold and began operating on the Great Lakes. During her time on the lakes she was not well cared for. In November of 1905, the ship was caught in the middle of a raging storm and a hole was punctured in her forward cargo hold. The ship began to take on water, which eventually caused a massive boiler explosion. The Hart was sent to the bottom of Lake Michigan within minutes, taking all of hew crew with her.
