SHIP BRIEFING MANUAL
FFG-99-1F HOOD CLASS AIR WARFARE FRIGATE
"Fog Walker" (MIA)
Newquay Navy – Bluewater Fleet
1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The F99-1 Hood Class Air Warfare Frigate is a multi-role surface combatant optimized for fleet air defense with secondary surface and subsurface warfare capability. The class constitutes a core component of the Newquay Navy’s Bluewater Fleet and is intended for sustained operations in open-ocean environments.
Although based on a 1960s hull design, successive modernization and service life extension programs have preserved the class’s operational effectiveness. The design emphasizes mechanical reliability, rapid reaction time, and weapons redundancy over crew comfort and internal volume.
2 PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS
Maximum Speed: 29 knots
Propulsion (Post-SLEP2): GT600 Gas Turbine Engines
Operational Endurance: Classified
Seakeeping: Rated for sustained bluewater operations
Internal Volume: Limited (legacy hull constraints)
3 DEVELOPMENT AND PROCUREMENT HISTORY
3.1 Program Origins
The F-99 program originated in the 1960s following identified capability gaps in Newquay Navy Air Warfare (AW) and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) roles. To accelerate force regeneration and reduce unit cost, the F-99 Air Warfare Frigate and F-97 ASW Frigate were developed concurrently using a common hull, propulsion layout, and systems baseline.
3.2 Fleet Rationalization
The introduction of the UUM-2B “Curveball” torpedo provided non-specialized surface combatants with effective ASW capability. Subsequent defense funding reductions required the elimination of one frigate type. Due to its limited mission flexibility outside ASW, the F-97 class was decommissioned. Remaining hulls were retained for spare parts recovery and logistical support of the F-99 class.
4 MODERNIZATION AND SERVICE LIFE EXTENSION
4.1 Early Modernization Programs
Initial upgrade programs focused on air defense and gun systems, including:
Replacement of RIM-3 and RIM-5 missile systems with RIM-7
Subsequent integration of RIM-20 surface-to-air missiles
Replacement of legacy forward and aft turrets with L76/2M dual naval autocannon
Replacement of twin 4.5-inch gun mounts with L120M naval guns
Integration of UUM-2B Curveball torpedoes for organic ASW capability
4.2 Second Service Life Extension Program (SLEP-2)
Despite several hulls exceeding 60 years of service, the SLEP-2 program returned the class to full operational relevance. Key upgrades included:
Replacement of steam propulsion with GT600 gas turbine engines
Full JTAC-ADV combat system integration
Installation of L30M Mod 4 “Viper” remotely operated secondary autocannons
Installation of L120M Mod 2 “Mallet” unmanned main gun systems
Replacement of UUM-2B Curveball torpedoes with UUM-3A “Slingshot” heavyweight torpedoes
5 COMBAT SYSTEMS
5.1 Air Warfare Systems
Primary role of the class
Missile systems optimized for short-to-medium range fleet defense
JTAC-ADV integration enables coordinated targeting and fire control
5.2 Surface Warfare Systems
Dual unmanned main guns provide precision naval gunfire
Secondary autocannons optimized for close-in surface and asymmetric threats
5.3 Anti-Submarine Warfare Systems
Heavyweight torpedoes provide independent ASW engagement capability
Organic ASW role secondary to air warfare mission set

(if i forgot to credit you, do let me know.)
on a side note, this was only a tad bit edited, as i didn't want to stray too far from Oh no look who's frigate, just wanted to add a bit of "flare" to it
as for the 6 blocks near the AP console: its supposed to be a damage report system, fire-flooding it'll light up if anything happens, same with the spinning light near the Engine console.
