They were put into service for the Guantanomo Mail Line and sailed successfully for several years until 1928, when Guantanamo Mail Line, after years of mounting debt, filed for bankruptcy and closed its doors. The fleet was sold off and Lakshmi Ocean Steamship Company was fortunate enough to received the 2 vessles. Upon acquisition of the 2 vessels in 1928 they were laid up and taken in for extensive refit but in the immediate aftermath of the Melek Disaster of 1929 , which involved the 1913-built S.S. "MELEK" sinking after a collision, the Colorado and her sister, the Carolina, were assigned to fill the space the Melek had left behind in her absence. Carolina and Colorado served faithfully for many years with next to no incidents, except for one. on May 13th, 1932, Colorado was Uran-bound when she nearly struck and sank a small fishing vessel, but was quickly able to avoid a complete disaster.. Colorado and Carolina served tandem services for 19 years till 1948, when Carolina wrecked and was deemed financially redundant, then condemned, and later scrapped on site. Following the loss of the Carolina, Colorado was taken out of service and laid up in Weehawken Harbor. After years of disrepair, in 1958, Colorado sank in shallow waters in the harbor and was scrapped on site. To this day, her keel remains buried under the harbor bed.
