F/V NORTHWESTERN Alaskan Crab Vessel
HISTORY
The F/V Northwestern is a commercial fishing boat that operates in Alaska’s Bering Sea. She pot fishes for cod and crab, and also tenders during the Alaskan salmon run.
The Northwesterns Predecessor, the F/V Foremost
Captain Sig Hansen's father, Sverre Hansen, was on a regular crabbing trip on his vessel, the Foremost. In April of 1977, the Foremost started taking water into its crab tanks creating a slack tank, partially filling the space. The sloshing water caused the vessel to capsize. Luckily, everybody aboard survived. Sverre, persuaded to stay and fish in Alaska despite losing their ship, decided to build a new fishing boat, the famous Northwestern. After gambling 1.2 million dollars on a brand new, state of the art MARCO fishing boat, construction began.
The Northwestern
Unlike most boats of the time, MARCO, the company associated with making commercial crabbers in Alaska, was known for making very reliable, stable, and easy to work on vessels. Construction finished in 1977, and at 108 feet (33 M) she was more than capable. The boat went on to be lengthened twice, once in 1987, from 108 to 118 feet (36 M), then once more in 1991 from 118 to its current 125 feet (38 M). It became one of the first boats to fish for Opilio (A species of snow crab) in the early 1980’s. Today, it's one of, if not the most famous fishing vessels thanks to the TV show Deadliest Catch, being featured on all 21 seasons.

HOW TO START

[*] Flip all of the red switches ON on the electrical panel in the engine room (Left Front) If you want to be realistic, link the starboard generator to the deck equipment and the port generator to power to general electrics. One engine can power both.
[*] Turn on whichever generators are needed depending on which engine supplies power to; either the deck equipment or general electrics.
[*] The main engine has a simple grey key on the right side of it, just flip that.
