SS Phoenix 1896 "CV BB-3" Type Cargo Ship (Sinkable)
AMERICAN CV BB-3 TYPE CARGO SHIP "Phoenix"
LORE
Built in 1896 by Ashley & Co. for Sebastian & Co. The Phoenix was the first of a series of cargo ships built by Ashley & Co. from 1896 to 1900, called the "CV BB-3" type. CV BB-3 stood for Cargo Vessel Bulk Built, and the -3 meant that this was the 3rd class of cargo ships that were mass produced (Bulk Built) by A&Co. In total, 99 Type CV BB-3s were built. 85 of these were steam cargo ships, 4 were self-propelled steam barges, and the last 10 were immobile barges that had to be towed by tugboats.
The Phoenix and her identical sister ship, the SS Pegasus of 1897, were both 77 feet long (23.50 meters), had a beam of 15 feet (4.75 meters) and a height of 37 feet (11.25 meters), and were both powered by dual expansion steam engines and a single boiler. In 1914, the 2 ships, along with the remaining 97 CV BB-3 type cargo ships, were heavily inspected after a sulfur carrying CV BB-3 disappeared at sea a year prior, which sparked both curiosity and concern over the quote "well-balanced and exceedingly safe design". No faults were found with either the Phoenix or the Pegasus or any of the other CV BB-3 cargo ships, and the sudden disappearance of the Sulfuric was deemed an act of God, I.E., sunk during freak weather or an explosion of her sulfur cargo with the Sulfuric being the only CV BB-3 ever lost at sea; however, it was recommended that S & Co. install wireless sets onboard both ships, however it wouldn't be until 1918 when they would be installed because...
On February 28th, 1918, the Phoenix left Liverpool on a return voyage where she would pass through the Stormworks Island Chain and then head back to Florida. She nor the Pegasus had not had a wireless set installed, even with the heavy encouragement of the USCG. On March 2nd, the Phoenix made it into the Stormworks Island Chain and made a quick stop in Meier before heading out towards the Atlantic. Before she could leave the sight of the Sawyer Mainland, however, an explosion in her engine room rocked the ship. She had either been attacked by an enemy submarine or had struck a sea mine. This explosion seriously injured Engineer George Steop, and the stoker, David Pinbull, had to help him out of the rapidly flooding engine and boiler room. In only around 5 minutes, the Phoenix went down almost level, and thankfully, all 8 crew members made it off the ship before she did. They paddled to the Sawyer mainland and George Steop received treatment for his injuries. Afterwards, the crew was taken to Florida via another ship.
After this incident, a wireless set was installed on the Pegasus and in 1930, the Pegasus was sold off to an Australian company and renamed the Tasman. In 1949, she was sold again to an Indian company and was scrapped sometime in 1960
The wreck of the Pheonix was discovered in 1978. Out of the 99 CV BB-3 type cargo ships, 2 survived into modern day. The SS Henry Marcall of 1899, which is currently in preservation, and the unpowered barge P-3, which has been mothballed in the Ohio River since 1967.
HOW TO MOVE
Use the starboard throttle lever on the ships bridge wing labeled "Telegraph"
PS. You don't have to play with infinite electricity for this ship to work however if you are in custom mode I do recommend it.
HOW TO SINK
There is a lockable button in the Captain & 1st Officer's cabin.
MISC
The hull and overall design of this ship was based on the way my friend Random Stuff Uploaded (RSU) as well as other creators like Mr XL, and Matthesiendaniel42 (Just to name a few) build they're ships and its probably the way I will continue to build my ships and other creations as well.
