Jormungandr No 4884 Big Boy Front

# Jörmungandr – No. 4884 Big Boy **Diesel–Steam Hybrid Articulated Locomotive** **4-8-8-4 | Heavy Freight Engine** Jörmungandr No. 4884 is a diesel–steam hybrid interpretation of the legendary Big Boy. Designed for extreme hauling while remaining easy to operate, this locomotive delivers immense pulling power with straightforward controls suitable for any Stormworks player. --- ## Spawning the Locomotive Jörmungandr No. 4884 is articulated and must be spawned in two sections. **1. Spawn the front half first** When spawned, the front section will automatically move forward and stop outside of the build zone. This is **normal behavior** and requires no user input. **2. Spawn the rear half** Once the rear section is spawned, the front section will **automatically reverse and dock** with it. No controls or player input are required during this process. **3. Fuel & Water Tender (Optional)** If you are using the fuel and water tender: * Start the locomotive * Pull forward to create space * Reverse slowly into the tender * Connect the fuel and water hoses as normal --- ## Startup & Operation Instructions **1. Enter the cab and turn on the ignition** This powers the locomotive’s core systems. **2. Set the Boiler Target Temperature (BTT)** Adjust the BTT based on the desired performance level: * **160°C** – Normal operation (recommended) * **200°C** – High-performance mode for heavy loads and steep grades **3. Adjust temperature using the Thermostatic Mixing Valve (TMV)** Use the **Thermostatic Mixing Valve (TMV)** to fine-tune boiler temperature. The TMV allows the temperature to be adjusted downward to match the selected BTT. **4. Release the brakes** Reduce the brakes to **0** and confirm the train is free to move. **5. Apply throttle** Increase throttle gradually. * **Recommended:** Start at **10%** to get moving * Increase in steps as needed **6. Changing direction** If reverse movement is required, set the **reverser** to the desired direction **before** applying throttle. --- ## Extra Controls & Systems Jörmungandr No. 4884 includes additional controls for realism, safety, and advanced operation. --- ### Marking Lights Accurate railroad marking lights are included: * **Up (Green)** – Section of a **scheduled train** * **Down (White)** – **Extra (unscheduled) train** These follow real-world railroad signaling conventions. --- ### Electric Boost * **Boost Lever** – Provides additional sustained power * **Open = ON** Use for starting heavy trains or climbing long grades. --- ### Emergency Steam Relief * **Emergency Steam Relief Valve** * **Open = ON** Rapidly vents steam pressure. Use only in emergency situations. --- ### Emergency Brakes * **Emergency Brake Button** * Press once to activate * Press again to release Additional emergency brake controls are also located: * At the **front of the locomotive** * On the **tender** (if equipped) --- ### Audible Signals * **Steam Whistle** – Pull and hold to sound; stops when released * **Bell** – Turn the crank to ring; stops when released --- ### Lighting Controls Independent lighting systems include: * Headlights * Track lights * Cab lights * Tender lights --- ### Train Track Crank Switcher * **Track Switch Crank** – Allows manual switching of track direction Turn the crank to change the selected rail path. Useful for yard operations, sidings, and manual routing. --- ### Tender Systems (If Equipped) When using the fuel and water tender: * **Diesel Pump Switch** – Supplies fuel * **Water Pump Switch** – Supplies boiler water --- ### Sound Controls * **Main Piston Noise Disable Switch** Allows piston sound effects to be muted if desired. --- ## Driving Notes * Built for **power**, and speed * Smooth throttle inputs give the best performance * Ideal for long, heavy freight consists * Plan braking early under extreme loads --- ## Shutdown Procedure 1. Bring the train to a complete stop 2. Apply brakes 3. Reduce throttle to zero 4. Lower the BTT if desired 5. Turn off the ignition --- ## Final Notes Jörmungandr No. 4884 honors the most powerful steam locomotives ever built—reimagined as a modern diesel–steam hybrid for Stormworks. Simple to operate, brutal in strength, and unmistakable on the rails. **If it fits on the tracks, Jörmungandr can haul it.**
