Tug Boat Makrele

Tub Boat Makrele is a purely fictional creation, wich is supposed to have its homeport in Hamburg, Germany. It's based off of many different steamships i've visited over several years. I'd like to specially mention the Ice-breaker "WAL" in Bremerhaven, Germany and the tug-steamer "Tiger" in Hamburg-Oevelgönne, Germany. Up until now, this has been by far my most ambitious build yet. Features: ______________________________________________ # # # # # Engine / Boiler Room # # # # # -Coal fired -1 Boiler plus firebox -3 Steam driven cylinders -Diesel Generator -2 main batterys; 1 reserve battery -Fresh water reserve for boiler refilling -Simplyfied yet "realistic" controls for Boiler and Steam engine -Emergency rudder and decorative Rudder machine -Bilge pump with 2 compartments (Bow,Stern) with high water Alarm # # # # # Crew Area # # # # # -2 Beds -1 Toilet -Seating area -First aid equipment -2 sets of Winter clothing -Emergency exit # # # # # Wheelhouse # # # # # -Helm (Obviously) -Digital speedometer -Dial for reading of Boiler Pressure -Radio -Digital wind-meter; shows wind direction and Wind level in Bft (1-12) -Functional handles for steamwhistle or foghorn -Compass -Weather station -Decorative chart table -Rudder pos. The Telegraph has 5 forwards levels and 5 Astern levels to mimic real engine telegraphs. By using the telegraph in the bridge, the throttle lever inside the engine room is automatically moved the desired amount. The Reverse Gear will also be selected remotely and confirmed by a loud ringign noise. The telegraph is moved by W and S. The Rudder is moved by A and D. To make the handling of the ship feel more realistic and challanging, the rudder is not returning to 0° by itself (Sticky). To Handle the ship you have to focus on the rudderposition Dial, infront of the helm. If the Spotlight is turned on, it can be moved with the arrow-keys. For emergencys i've added an onboard alarm. Lights and sound can be tested via a small button. If the reguar button is pressed, a distress signal is automatically activated and the ship horn will automatically sound 8 times (7 long, 1 short). Both the steam- and the foghorn can be sounded via helm or by holding one of both handles at the ceiling. # # # # # Engine Room # # # # # The Electrical power is supplied by 3 Batterys. The first is turned on by default. By turning the keybuttons, the second and reserve battery can be turned on. If onshore power is connected, a seperate switch can be turned to switch to onshore power. All lights and the heaters can be turned on with the switchboard. The Diesel generator is turned on by throtteling up a little and pressing the starter button for a short amount of time. To turn it off, simply lower the throttle lever to zero. The Bilge control panel shows the water level in the Bow and stern compartment. If the amount in one of the compartments rises above 500L, the Bilge alarm will sound and the Dial will flash quickly. The alarm can be muted via a button. The according Bilge pumps can be turned on via keybuttons. The main engine is throttled by the lever for the steam valve, wich is usually remotely controlled. It is still possible to manually move the lever to the desired level. The Reverse is turned on by a keybutton next to the Telegraph Dial and can also be manually turned on The ruddermachine is mostly decorative. However the lever at the machine can be used as an emergency rudder. # # # # # Boiler Room # # # # # To start up the Boilers simply open the Air valve at the ceiling and turn on the Boiler feeding pumps and the cooling pumps. After that, the Boiler should start heating. If more Water is needed in the Boiler, Fresh water can be directly added by opening a handvalve at the reserve water tank. After reaching 50 bar, the safety valve will remove pressure from the system. To store more steam, the Boiler is equipped with a gas tank to hold additional steam volume. If desired it can be turned off via a valve. ______________________________________________ ______________________________________________ Have fun with it.
