CSS Albemarle - Ironclad Ram

History:
The CSS Albemarle was a Confederate ironclad ram launched in 1864 during the American Civil War. Built in a cornfield near the Roanoke River in North Carolina, she was made to break the Union naval blockade. She successfully sank or forced the retreat of multiple Union gunboats at the Battle of Plymouth, helping Confederate forces recapture the town.
Albemarle dominated the Roanoke River for several months until she was sunk in a daring nighttime raid by Union Navy Lieutenant William B. Cushing, who used a spar torpedo to destroy her on October 27, 1864.
She was later raised, captured, refitted and sold.
