Downed Death for Combat Extended

Adds a chance for certain pawns to immediately die when downed, based on the player's extra death on down difficulty setting. How does it work? Similar to vanilla, pawns will have a chance to immediately die when downed, based on a dice roll against your death on down difficulty setting. This roll will only happen if the downed pawn: - Does not belong to the player faction. - Is not an animal. - Is not a mechanoid. - Is not a slave. - Is not a prisoner. - Is not in laying down in bed. These checks should ensure no weirdness happens, like prisoners dying under anesthesia, but let me know if you ever happen to find an exception. This setting is far less nuanced than the vanilla setting. The vanilla extra downed on death option takes factors like storyteller intention, amount of colonists, etc. into account, whereas this is a flat diceroll. I've also patched the default difficulty scenarios to significantly lower the default death on downed values. As I've said, the vanilla setting is far more nuanced and many default difficulty settings, by default, have a death on downed chance of 100%. I've changed it to be far lower, 10% at easy and scaling up, the default maximum being 50% on Losing is fun. You can, of course, use custom difficulty to make it as low or as high as you want. 100% death on downed works as exactly as you'd think. Q&A Does this mod work without Combat Extended? Technically yes, but do keep in mind that this mod was developed with the assumption that a mod would remove vanilla's death on downed feature. You do not need this mod if you're playing vanilla anyway, as said function already exists in vanilla. What's the purpose of this mod? Combat Extended completely removes vanilla's death on downed mechanic, this mod is a simple replacement for that. How's performance? This mod uses Harmony to patch onto the CheckForStateChange function, which is also used by vanilla for its death on downed chance function. The code which runs is even simpler than vanilla's - just a diceroll vs the player's death on downed difficulty setting - which means the code should be pretty performant. Do you think you're funny, re-introducing RNG mechanics to Combat Extended? Yes. Interested in participating in the development of my mods? Join the Discord server!
