Timken 1111 (Four Aces)

Four Aces is a 4-8-4 Northern Built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) in 1930, as a demonstration for the Timken Rolling Bearing Company, it would be the first locomotive to have all sealed roller bearings rather than plain bearings ot a combination of the two. It was used by major railroads, the ones included being the C&O, New Haven, and PRR. It would of also been used in publicity stunts where only three people (both men and women, but the three women pulling it was in Chicago), could pull it, with the stunts shown that the roller bearings produced little friction that the locomotive could be moved by hand. On August, 1931 the locomotive would accumulated over 90,000 miles when it was delivered to the Northern Pacific. The 15th railroad to demonstrate it. With a dynamometer car in tow, the NP was able to operate the locomotive at high as 88 miles per hour. Unfortunately while in service 1111 would sustain severe damage to its crown sheet, Timken demanded that NP repair it, but the railroad would refuse to repair the locomotive since they didn't own it, an agreement was made to sell the locomotive to Northern Pacific, where it would be classified as a A-1, repainted, and renumbered to 2626. The locomotive would continue service with them, attempts were made to save the locomotive, but before Timken and Northern Pacific could complete their negotiations, 2626 would be scrapped in 1958 at South Tacoma.
